It remains to be seen whether they'll go through with this one or not.
Early last week, they did have the new AAA format going part time, with
an open carrier the rest of the time. Now they seem to have gone back to
//KXTA. KACD (worldclassrock.com) moved to the Internet. I believe they
are still using the KBET call letters. If they go back to AAA, I'll let
everyone know.

KQWB on 1660 puts a very good signal into Grand Rapids (Minnesota)
during the day (we're about 175 air miles from them). Nice v/l received
for 9/1 reception from Mark Borchert, CE, who mentioned that 9/1 was
their first day of broadcast on 1660. Have also tried 1550 here, no
sign of KQWB during the day (only a weak WEVR) but this happened last
year, too, w/KQWB evidently still on. Can someone west of Fargo verify
that the 1550 KQWB is indeed off? John Sampson
*Nigel Pimblett - Medicine Hat AB - ntp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Does anyone know if KQWB 1550 was shut down when 1660 came on? I
haven't been able to hear it of late. KSFT in St.Joseph, MO has been
dominating on my east beverage, whereas previously they were nearly
always secondary to KQWB.

830 WTRU NC Eden is the new call for WXII. New format, too. Appears to
be religious/Christian: "The Truth". Serves the "Triad" which is
the name for Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Burlington, NC.[CAT/NC]

Sept. 11 could turn out to be a black day for European MW DX-ers.
Yesterday evening I noticed that all MW channels of "France Bleu" (and
there are quite a few) now seem to run all night (at least still active
at 00.00UTC). Most probably this is as a consequence of their new 24hr
schedule, announced some time ago.
At my QTH (SW Germany)many of these channels came in very strong (e.g.
1206, 1278, 1377, 1557 etc.) Not only does this block the interesting
1377 kHz frequency (I still have not heard RFA yet), but it may also
spoil a lot of TA channels close to these French frequencies.

A fair DU morning. Nothing too great, mostly NZ and some Pacific. It
started off last night with strong AU cx for CA and Pacific, but never
quite got up to what I had hoped. I returned up my EWE antenna and
readjusted it for the nulls so it is working fine now. Hopefully this
Fallwill be a good one, but with the sunspots so high, who knows. Last

Their addr is Dolphin Recording Studio, Box 8588, Dubai, UAE. Though

I just completed the best AM of MW DXing that I've ever had from this
more-or-less inland site. (September 10, 2000) The opening was limited
to the last hour before dawn (1255 until 1345 UTC) and was also limited
to Japan and a few Koreans. Nevertheless, I'm really pleased that I'd
hear this much from this site. Here are my notes. All IDs are
presumed, the language IDs are positive unless otherwise noted:
747 JOIB Sapporo, NHK 2, JJ talk noted at 1321. Good level
756 JOGK Kumamoto, NHK1, threshold audio in JJ? noted at 1322
774 JOUB Akita, NHK2, noted throughout opening with excellent signal
(half a mega-watt!)
828 JOBB Osaka, NHK2 //774 also noted throughout opening
837 JOQK Niigata, NHK1 here at good level at 1320
864 Korean, probable North Korea, also noted throughout opening at
threshold level
873 JOGB, Kumamoto, NHK2, noted throughout with threshold audio in

thrill, even though I chose not to stay on any of the several new-for-me

outstanding with English financial review at 16.45 UTC. Yesterday
a serbo-croat speaking station and later a farsi-talking Iranian.
And today, to my big surprise, at 16.15-17.30 the HLAZ/FEBC,

Does anyone know if WEEU 830 in Reading Pennsylvania received an
authorization to change nighttime power or patern since they moved from
850 to 830? When they first move to 830 I could not hear them at night.
Recently, I have been hearing them very well at night -- just like
daytime. They *couldn't* be using daytime power and patern at night,
without authorization, could they?! Getting to be quite common around
here, but I thought the owners of WEEU were rather ethical folks.

** OKLAHOMA. The latest edition of Oklahoma Magazine, Sept 4 on the OETA
Network (very well produced I must admit, despite my frequent criticism
of OETA), was ``Una Vida Mejor`` about the burgeoning Hispanic (mostly
Mexican) population in OK, and Tulsa in particular. Prominently featured
was the 1530 radio station, ``La más buena`` (¿is that good Spanish,
instead of ``La mejor`` ?), which is run by one Blas Gaytán, who
evidently arrived in the US a few years ago without proper admittance
like so many of his compatriots. Incredibly, no one asked him and
nothing was said about leaving his daytimer transmitter on the air 24
hours, as we have reported previously in Oklahoma Broadcasting News. Nor
was it mentioned that OKC counts with its own LPTV Spanish stations on
22 and 17. Lacking listings in the Daily Disappointment, or cable
carriage, I`ll bet most OKCOKians are unaware even of their existence.
And locally with antennas they are likely to be overwhelmed by all the
RF from the concentrated OKC UHF and VHF antenna farm.

The Adult Album Alternative format is also known as Modern Adult
Contemporary. St. Louis is about to lose it's AAA station with the sale
of WVRV-101.1 East St. Louis, IL from Sinclair to Bonneville. Rumor has
"The River" going to either an all-'80s format (which is a new format
for the market) or Smooth Jazz (which has been out of the market since
1995). It may also lose it's last remaining Classic Rock station with
the sale, too; KXOK-97.1 Florissant, MO is scheduled to change formats
when ownership changes from Sinclair to Emmis.
AM format changes of note: KWRT-1370 Boonville, MO is now simulcasting
on KWRT-FM 93.1 in the same city. The station features the Jones "Music
Of Your Life" feed. KJSL-630 St. Louis, MO has apparently taken the
fundamentalist bite out of their Christian talk programming. I've noted
fewer anti-Catholic hosts on the station in recent months. They also
carry Contemporary Christian music in morning drive.

As some of you will know, CJYQ on 930 kHz from St. John's NF has just
changed format from oldies ("Good Times, Great Oldies") to "mainly"
Newfoundland music. I've listened to the station for a few hours and
I've only heard Newfoundland music. So what does "Newfoundland music"
sound like? Much of it sounds like old-fashioned country and western,
but the better stuff sounds like Irish music. It is IDing mainly as
"Radio Newfoundland," although the "CJYQ" call letters are given at the
top of the hour, local time.
