 Hello around the world,
This is my first report to hc-dx and first of
all I would like to introduce myself. My
name is Silken Medert, 33 years old, radioamateur since 1981 (DH3PAB) and
shortwave listener since about 1980.
In the last months, after I bought the
Wellbrook ALA1530 Magnetic Loop antenna, I was engaged in listening to
several LA-Stations in the tropical bands. Since one and a half year
my loggings are published in the ADDX Radio-Kurier. Several loggings were posted
in A-DX during the last months, too. On this occasion, I'd like to say
hello to Enzio Gehrig and Michael Schnitzer!
The following logs were done with a JRC NRD-525,
the above mentioned 1m-Loop ALA1530, and the Dierking notch/peak filter GD
86 NF.
My location is south east of Cologne, Germany about
50° 50' N   07°E in Koeln-Porz-Eil.
Times in UTC. SINPO: a common used rating (1 - 5)
of reception quality by german shortwave listeners. For those of you, who
never having heard about this code, here's a quick explaination:

S = Signal strength; 1 = just hearable, but no
chance of understanding, to 5 = very good, like the reception of a
nearby local station.
I = Interference (man made noise, qrm), 1=
unable to understand anything due to heavy qrm, to 5 = no qrm at
all.
N = Natural Noise (statics, qrn), 1 = no
reading possible due to statics, to 5 = no statics and other qrn at
all.
P = Propagation disturbance (fading), 1
= continuous reception not possible due to deep fading, 5 = no
fading.
O = Overall (Summarized rating):
1 = just hearable, but without understanding
anything. Language identification is usually impossible. It
is possible to differ music from speech.
2 = reading parts of the signal is possible. Most
of the local LA-stations on tropical bands are rated with a 2 in Germany.

3 = fading, qrm, or statics have a negative effect
on the reception, but it is possible to read the signal quite well. In Germany
most of the african stations in the tropical bands are rated somewhere
between 3 and 4.
4 = good reception, low effects of fading, qrm and
statics.
5 = very good signal with high strength and without
disturbance. In shortwave not very often, hi!
