[HCDX] DXpedition Loggings
Grayland, Washington USA July 15-16
Another Pacific coast DXpedition trip to Grayland, WA unfortunately
coincided with the strongest geo-storm of the current solar cycle! I did
most of my listening on the tropical bands, but a few MW catches were made.
Notably absent were the Japanese stations, presumably wiped out by the
active geomagnetic conditions.
RX: JRC NRD-535GS (Gilfer) w/all Kiwa mods
ANT: three terminated, dual-wire Beverage antennas: 800-1000 ft. each at
258, 268, and 288 degrees; one 8-direction Wellbrook K9AY and one
4-direction Wellbrook K9AY antennas
Thanks go out to John Bryant and Don Nelson for their efforts putting up
antennas before I arrived on Friday.

531 KHz, presumed 2MC Kempsey, AUSTRALIA with Streisand and James Taylor
tunes. Fair with long fades 1235-1241 on 7/15. A co-channel station was
noted with an occasional "testing, testing!" by a deep-voiced male. (Who's
this?).
738 KHz, RFO TAHITI with a marvelous signal level 0515 on 7/15. FR pops,
island mx 0535, and man in FR 0536. Beautiful choral mx or hymn in pres.
Polynesian 0542. Frequency was checked again four hours later, but only a
het noted.
738 KHz, likely 2NR Grafton, AUSTRALIA with Aussie-accent EG talk and mx
1220-1230 on 7/15. Poor.
1017 KHz, A3Z TONGA, just a moderate het at 0530 on 7/15, but improved to
fair the next night 7/16 with island vocals at 0924.
1431 KHz, UNID. station at 1240 on 7/16 playing an Elton John tune. Poor,
and faded quickly into the mud. 2RN Australia?
1467 KHz, Rakiraki FIJI playing usual Hindi vocals and film music 1247-1255
on 7/16. Signal would peak to fair level for 20-30 seconds, then begin a
long fade to inaudibility.
1683.2 KHz, Radio Club, Earlwood NSW AUSTRALIA. Very faint signal 1228 on
7/15; man talking in unid. lang., sounded Greek. The tune heard at 1235
seemed much like Greek folk music. Also noted 7/16 at 1300 with similar
programming.
