** BELGIUM [non]. RVI via RNW Madagascar started on 13645 in A-00
period. This freq was much too high for the S African winter. But at
RNW MDG site only high freq antennas were available. The longest mb
to match the available antenna was on 25 m like 11985 kHz. So RVI
changed from 13645 to 11985 previously. But since last week the
outgoing RVI signal suffered more and more in SAf target in southern
mid-winter. Now colleagues at the RNW MDG relay site built up a new
antenna for lower frequencies. RVI will replace 11985 by well
propagating 7195 channel in remaining southern winter period. At
1800-1900 parallel to 7195, 5910 and 9925 to EUR, 13710 to SoEUR &

RVI realised already for some time that 11 MHz was too high for the
S. African winter. The point was, that there was no antenna available
at Madagascar for frequencies lower than 11 MHz. In the mean time,
the construction of a new antenna for lower frequencies has been
finalised. RVI was lucky that this antenna was free at times they
wanted to use it. So they decided to move. (Source : RVI Golfgids -

** BOLIVIA. Today I met Swedish veteran DXer Rolf Fredriksson who
started DXing in 1942. He has a tape of R Yura (4716.8) as received
May 8 at his QTH just next to the Arctic Circle. The signal level is
quite good so one can easily transcribe most of what the DJ says.
There are references to "Radio Yura", "la radio Yura" and an annc´t
saying "Seguimos con la buena música, música que caracteriza Radio
Yura, La Voz del Ayllu". Three QSL´s from this station have been
reported, one each from Sweden, Finland and Japan. Not one of the
recipients has disclosed the v/s e-mail address so far. Why such

** BOLIVIA. 4716.76, Radio Yura, was noted at 1030-1115 fair to poor
on 01/JUL/2000. Program for rural audience in Quechua, with rustic CP
folklore. ID was given at 1102 as "Transmite Radio Yura en la banda
internacional de los 60 metros onda corta llegando nítidamente a todo
[sic] Bolivia y el mundo." (Takayuki Inoue N., Tokyo, Japan,

** BRAZIL. Glenn, Very interesting information about Radio Educadora
de Limeira 2380 kHz; this city is near Iracemapolis, 10 km, and at
night I can listen to this one on 2380 kHz, but during daylight is
impossible. (Dinan Rogerio, Iracemapolis, Brazil, July 1, DX
LISTENING DIGEST) So off air in daytime? But we are trying to find
out the UT sign on/off times (gh)

** CANADA. CHNX, 6130: Scott Snailham, until recently at CHNS-
960/CHNX-6130 writes: It is unfortunate to report that at the time I
left CHNS, in early May, the SW was off the air due to problems with
the transmitter. At that time, I spoke to Mark Olsen, CE, and he said
that he was waiting on getting hold of a manual to attempt to solve
the problem, and I just called a communication friend of mine in
Halifax, who did confirm that CHNX is currently off the air as there
was no signal on 6130. I cannot say if it will ever be back on, as
when I was answering QSL's it was on shaky grounds financially, and
dare I say it, this chain is known for keeping costs tight. CHNX
power, 50 watts or 500 watts? This is hard to say, at the time I was
answering QSL's, it was between 40-70 watts. This was based on the
exciter output power, as the power amplifier has been needing repair
for quite a while, but they are licensed for 500 watts. It's safe to
say that I don't think they have been up to full power for years, due
to the state of the tx. CHNX transmission hours: It was 24 hrs / 7

** CHINA [non]. New Falungong clandestine: did not check July 1, but
on July 2 at 1400-1430+ on 9915 nothing was audible (Glenn Hauser,

** CHINA [non]. CLANDESTINE from ? to CHINA 9915 World Falun Dafa
Radio. BBC has an article about their first broadcast. It's at

Is anyone hearing this one? Checked at 1358 both
days and found a Chinese service already on the channel, even though
the ILG lists this as a clear frequency at this time. Suspect
Beijing, but haven't found any parallel frequencies yet. Just after
5+1 time pips from the Chinese service at 1400 on Jul 1, a noise
jammer kicked in, AM/LSB/USB. On Jul 2, there was also jamming
starting at 1400, but it was distorted Chinese, similar to what I
hear jamming the various shortwave services from Taiwan. (Hans

Banned sect broadcasts to China

Followers say Falun Gong eases the path to spiritual enlightenment
The banned Falun Gong spiritual movement has begun daily radio
broadcasts aimed at mainland China to counter Beijing's year-long
crackdown on the sect.

The first broadcast delved into the history of the movement, the
story of its founding by Li Hongzhi and its introduction to the
public in 1992.

A list of some of its alleged benefits followed, said to include
cures for illness and help along the path to spiritual enlightenment.
It went on to detail the recent history of the organization within
China, discussing the anti-cult law passed by the authorities last
year and the incident when hundreds of members were detained
following a sit-in outside the government's headquarters compound in
Beijing.

Hong Kong reports followed, recounting the detention of members on
the mainland.

'Explaining Facts'

Falun Gong says that its radio station, called World Falun Dafa
Radio, aims "to broadcast information about the movement and clarify
facts about the Falun Gong issue to people in the Chinese mainland".
Falun Dafa, which means the Great Law of the Dharma Wheel, is another
name for the Falun Gong movement, which combines meditation with a
doctrine rooted loosely in Buddhist and Daoist teachings. Falun Dafa
Radio's producers and editors operate from the United States.

Staff members there say the Chinese-language broadcasts are being
directed at northern and central China and are aimed at letting
ordinary people there know about what the movement calls the
widespread persecution of its members.

Tuning in

World Falun Dafa Radio`s web site has for some time carried news
reports and audio in Chinese. The station intends to broadcast every
day for an hour (1400-1500 GMT) - late evening Beijing time - on
shortwave frequency 9915 kilohertz. ... (BBC via DXLD)

444, end of Club de Oyentes, espacio de los radioaficionados del
mundo (or radio enthusiast from all over the world), check every

** COLOMBIA CLANDESTINE. 6261v, June 26, Voz de la Resistencia -
Bloque Oriental, 1140-1144, 444, Back here!, with Hechos y Opiniones.
Also at 2130 on the same frequency opening with usual Compañeros de
la FARC, but noted with poor reception today. (Yimber Gaviria,

** ECUADOR [non]. I have seen two reports suggesting that La Voz de
los Caras is active on 4796.4; one of the reporters is in South
America, and the other one in Europe.

I know that I am sticking my neck out by contradicting these two
reports and saying that they have probably been hearing Bolivian
Radio Mallku. One recent report says programme' consisted of
"huaynos, salsa, `Rondor` [Rondador?] music" This is inconsistent
with the La Voz de los Caras format. Indeed, in Ecuador you will not
hear any local stations play huaynos (from Peru, which is "enemy
territory", huh!), and the rondador flute is generally confined to
the Sierra. LV de los Caras did play salsa as well as ballads (in
Spanish), but the last time I ever heard them on the air was in June
1996, on 4795.3. Cf. info at

** ISRAEL. Reshut Hashidur - the Israel Broadcasting Authority just
updated its website. Unfortunately, at this point, it's mostly in
Hebrew. http://www.iba.org.il It now adds a live feed of the Arabic
Arutz Dalet (4th network). It has had a live feed of Reshet Bet (the
second network news/talk) for a while now. It has "Coming Soon"
spaces for Reshet Gimel (the Third network - which plays Hebrew only
pop music (it went to Hebrew only when the licenses were given for
the regional radio stations). It also has a coming soon for a live
feed of Israel TV's Channel One (Channel one is run by the IBA all
the time (unlike Arutz 2s multiple ownership)- so I would assume that
it would be available every day). It has a link for Mabat (Channel
One's daily evening TV news) which will start 'on demand
narrowcasting' on this Sunday (later today- at 9 PM Israel Time UTC
+0200) BTW, the "On Demand" section tells you what program is
currently playing on Reshet Bet. News from israelradio.org website
(Which now has links to parts of the updated IBA website too.

FYI- Israel's Foreign Ministry official website has a link to

there will be a new radio station called Kol Israel Reshet Dat -
which translates as Religious Network. A section of the Israeli
public has demonstrated a desire for a radio station whose
programming reflects the values of orthodox Judaism and the IBA is
responding to this. The station will be heard on 104.7 FM and
initially will be available in the Central region of the country.
Involved in the management of the new station is veteran Kol Israel

** KURDISTAN. CLANDESTINE station Voice of Iraqi People in Kurdish
and Arabic observed here: 03.00-07.00 and 15.00-19.00 on NF 5850
(irr), ex 9495 and on  NF 7135, ex 7095. Co-channel on NF 7135 03.00-
06.00 RFI in French and RAI International in German 18.05-18.25.

** PHILIPPINES. The Philippine Broadcasting Service, Quezon City,
uses 9580 from *0000-0600*. This outlet has the nominal callsign
DUR2, with 50 kW, and for some inexplicable reason remains unlisted
in the so-called authoritative annual references! It carries the MF
programming from 918 kHz (DZRB) and announces as "PBS Manila".
Programming a mixture of Tagalog and English, and noted with
excellent signals on Jun-08 on the beach at Manukan Island (near Kota

** U S A. Despite all the advance publicity, WHRI failed to broadcast
the AWR Wavescan special from Toronto, Sunday July 2 at 1200 on 6040.
I suppose it will be on the website http://www.awr.org where WS #287
for July 2 is already available. Were the specials supposed to be
outside this sequence, or really the identical program? Another
special would supposedly air one week later (Glenn Hauser, DX

** U S A. ``Common Ground`` is running a series about international
broadcasting, one of two topics on each half-hour show. This week was
about VOA, mostly Willis Conover; next week, clandestine radio. I
just heard it on KQED July 1 Sat 1115-1130 UT. Also ondemand:

Oooohhh beware, same occurrence happened last autumn, VTN signal
spread all over the 22 mb place, set a marker on every 10 kHz like a
garden fence. FUNDAMENTAL is 13740, and some spurious signals on both
