The following PNG stations were heard with times and signal strength as follows on April 7th , 2000: 0924:40 -85 dBm Port Moresby 4890.0 [excellent signal! SINPO = 45444] 0925:10 -97 dBm R. Morobe 3220.0 [weak but clearly parallel to 4890 at around 0921Z] 0925:45 -98 dBm R. Gulf 3245.0 [weak but clearly parallel to 4890 at around 0921Z] 0927:45 - 105 dBm R. Madang 3260.0 [weak but clearly parallel to 4890 at around 0921Z] 0929Z R. East New Britain on 3385.0 gone now, but heard around 0923Z earlier and NOT parallel to 4890 0925:50 -100 dBm R. Eastern Highlands on 3395.0 also was NOT parallel to 4890.0 when others were 0949:35 -90 dBm R. Manus 3314.998 was earlier parallel to 4890, now not parallel and heard with male announcer preceded by jungle sounds. Note: When re-checking at 0954Z the stations parallel to 4890.0 at about 0921Z are now NOT parallel. The parallels were checked roughly at 0921Z, but obviously some quit parallel broadcasting at some time not too long after this. Anybody note the times, reasons, why they switch to independent broadcasts? Was I too groggy and imagining things? Recheck for exact frequencies at 0957Z shows: 3314.998 R. Manus [playing Anchors Aweigh at 1010Z!] 3259.996 R. Madang 3244.998 R. Northern 3219.997 R. Morobe 3395.002 R. Eastern Highlands Port Moresby with still great signal at 1000Z ID with conch and drums [Radio Karai] 3385.0 heard earlier is still gone at 1000Z Conclusions – best for me to tune in earlier!! Will try 0800Z next time. Thomas B. Roach Somewhere in the Sierra mountain's foothills Receiver: Watkins-Johnson HF-1000 Antenna: Alpha Delta DX-SWL Sloper
