WORLD OF RADIO ON RFPI: The new edition 1016 already started Fri Dec 
17 at 1930, so repeats UT Sat 0330, 1130, 1800, etc. We hope to 
continue with Friday-start-cycles. 1016 was also confirmed at 
http://www.wrn.org/ondemand by 2100 UT Friday.

** AUSTRALIA. This week's Feedback on RA had some 60th anniversary 
greetings from various luminaries, even Sir Robert Menzies, from long 
ago. And someone tried to explain about programs disappearing for the 
summer holidays. The last Asia Pacific was Dec 17; back from Jan 10. 
Pacific Beat is replaced by Summer Beat, thru January, more relaxed 
format, from various Pacific islands. World Today and PM are off, 
replaced by documentary specials from correspondents inside and 
outside Australia. Australian Talkback is off for 4 or 5 weeks. 

Next Sat, Dec 25, RA will join with various local radio networks 
around Australia for Xmas celebrations, starting at 2300 UT Dec 24 
[said New Year?s Eve but surely meant Xmas Eve], until 2 am local 
time on Boxing Day [1500 UT Dec 25 if referring to AEST]. Then there 
will be a NYE Party, with Pacific broadcasting colleagues, GM of RA, 
the Governor General, and other leaders; I think he said it would 
start at 10 GMT, i.e. Dec 31 as the UT+14 islands pretend they are in 
2000y (Glenn Hauser)

** MACAU [non]. Xinhua has set up a website in Portuguese covering 
the handover, since Dec 17: http://www.xinhua.org/macao (Xinhua via 
BBC Monitoring, summarised by Hauser)

CRI will broadcast this live in Portuguese, according to 
http://www.cri.com.cn/portugal/99macau starting at 1500 UT Dec 19, 
until 1835 on 9515 to Portugal, 900 to Macau. This will include the 
transfer of power ceremony at 1600 UT Dec 19, midnight local time. 
>From 0150 to 0400 on 6165 for Portugal, 900 for Macau, another 
broadcast should cover the ceremonies creating the Macau Special 
Administrative Region and the inauguration of the new governor, 
Edmund Ho (Ho Hau-wah, in Chinese) and of his cabinet. All these can 
also be heard via the CRI website
http://www.cri.com.cn ). [6165 and 9515 likely European relays -gh]

As for RDP Internacional, I am completely unaware of any special 
broadcasts. The website http://www.rdp.pt has nothing at all about 
Macau, rather strange given the importance of the event. RDP has made 
broadcasts directly from the territory on their regular broadcasts, 
using the studios of R. Macau. (Fernando de Sousa Ribeiro, Porto,

contains a table of frequencies to be used in these special
broadcasts. These start at 1500 UT on Dec 19 and end at 1230 [sic] UT 
on Dec 20. The Transfer of Power Ceremony will be at 1500-1630; 
inauguration of new chief executive of the region at 1730-1830. [not 
given when the Official Reception Gala Celebration in Beijing will 
be! -- maybe that is what is really meant for 0150-0400 above if the 
times have been converted correctly; however, one would think the 
Gala more likely scheduled for the following local evening until 
perhaps 1230 UT -gh]

Tnx, Fernando; if anyone can nail down the exact times, frequencies 
and transmitter sites in the remaining hours before the event, that 
would be helpful. NAm apparently won't be getting much but the 
frequency to watch is 9690, which is normally only in English at 
0300-0400 via Spain. And as we said 7405 which is normally on until
1600. Info above is similar to what CRI was announcing at :15 into
its Friday broadcasts without any times but mentioning *five* live
broadcasts! (Hauser)

** NEW ZEALAND. This message is to confirm RNZI will go ahead with a 
transmission to East Timor as below -: Fri 17, Sat 18 and Sun 19 
December RNZI will extend transmission from 1000 to 1305 UTC: 

1005-1030 17675 
1030-1055 15235 
1055-1130 17675 
1130-1155 15235 
1155-1230 17675 
1230-1255 15295 
1255-1305 17675 
1305 Close Transmission 

The programme will mostly contain world news, NZ news and current

I suppose the alternation of 15 and 17 MHz be for further comparison 
tests. I then asked Adrian if this is ONLY Dec 17-19, or will it 
continue every weekend? (Hauser) 

Only 17, 18 and 19 Dec. There may be further transmissions but no 
decision has been made yet. (Sainsbury)

Also can you confirm the frequency schedule for your New Year 
special. Will you in fact be using the 6 MHz channels at night??

Yes we will use 6105 kHz 1105 - 1505 and 6145 kHz 1506-1650 UTC over 
New Years Eve. (Sainsbury)

Please, bring back 9700 in the 0500-1100+ period for this??? (Hauser)

Sorry we have no need to use lower frequencies for Pacific coverage 
at this time in the sunspot cycle. (Adrian)

I am well aware of your current thinking about 17675 versus 9700, but 
for this very special occasion only would like to encourage RNZI to 
take a broader view of worldwide coverage including North America 
(Hauser)

** PERU. Re R. Libertad, Trujillo in 99-75: Glenn, This station is 
listed on 1160 kHz with 5 kW. Perhaps you heard me mention it on Media 
Network in the meantime. 73, (Andy Sennitt)

I assume this is the Radio Libertad de Trujillo that came on briefly 
about 1983-4. I know it was when I was living in Honduras. I think 
the frequency was 4910, but I don't have my logs at hand to check. I 
do have a nice QSL letter from the owner (Burmeister? That name comes 
to mind.) The station had also been on SW in the 1950s and/or 1960s, 
before my time. Of course, it has always been on MW. It sounds like 
the Ministry of Transport is getting more serious about licensing. Of 
course, Trujillo is a major and easily reached city. Their agents may 
be less interested in traveling to remote mountain towns. In fact, I 
wonder if closing down Radio Libertad is a way of showing they are 
closing down unlicensed stations without personal sacrifice, ;-).

** U K O G B A N I. I tried to listen to Letter from America
via BBC Radio 4 on Real Audio Friday Dec 17 at 2045 GMT and I heard 
one from 1967 and an announcement that Mr. Cooke hadn't been able to 
make a new one due to illness. I haven't found out anything else.

** U S A. Notes from Allan Weiner Worldwide, WBCQ 7415, UT Sat Dec 18 
0100-0200: Pagan Potpourri has two more shows before quitting until 
next spring, perhaps: Fridays 2230-2300. Helen complained they got 
zero response, not even hate mail. From 2000y, probably will move 
Radio Detective into that time slot it originally wanted, ex- 
Tuesdays. New starting Dec 29 is Full Disclosure, political info, 
Weds 2300-2400 UT. Expects to test WBCQ-2 some more Thu or Fri 
afternoons, Dec 23-24, on 9340 with tones, SSB, AM, as it is tuned

** U S A. Well worth seeking out is Solstice Live, the Paul Winter 
Consort's annual 2-hour concert from the Cathedral of St. John the 
[Allegedly] Divine, New York, recorded Dec 10 and no doubt already 
aired on some NPR stations. KWGS 89.5 Tulsa is running it Sunday 
evening Dec 19 at 7 pm CT; WNYC 93.9 NYC the following Wednesday
