LITHUANIAN RADIO STOPS USING OIRT-FM BAND

On July 1, 1999, Lithuanian Radio (public national service)
stopped using OIRT-FM band, i.e. the Soviet standard 70 MHz
band for FM broadcasting. From now on, this band is only used
by several commercial broadcasters in Lithuania. The reason
to stop broadcasting on OIRT-FM was budget cut that hit Lithuania's
public broadcaster at the beginning of this year. The last five
stations that were closed are: Taurage-Norkaiciai 66.89 MHz,
Klaipeda 67.13 MHz, Viesintos 68.03 MHz, Visaginas 69.50 MHz,
and Siauliai-Bubiai 71.15 MHz. All of them were used to carry
Lithuanian Radio's first home service program.

NEVEZIO RADIJAS STOPS BROADCASTING IN PANEVEZYS

News unconfirmed by monitoring so far:
Nevezio Radijas, a Panevezys-based broadcaster, reportedly
stopped its programming in Panevezys on 104.8 MHz. The
frequency is now used to carry LABA'S FM program produced
by a Vilnius-based company Radiola. If true, this means that
Nevezio Radijas most probably ceased broadcasting in Birzai
on 107.3 MHz as well, since the latter was fed by picking the
signal of the 104.8 MHz station. Consequently, that means
that Nevezio Radijas does not broadcast at all anymore.
