Early this am 0853 UT, I heard a wonderful sign on of the CBC identifying
itself as GooseBay, Labrador
now on 6160 khz (not St. Johns), the call is no longer CKZN, but is
actually repeating the FM service for
Goose Bay. Following the Canadian National Anthem, and a patriotic Labrador
song, a strong open carrier
appeared about 0857 and soon the familiar Deutsche Welle Interval Signal
obliterated the Labrador station.
My WRTVH says this DW signal is Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, starting an English
broadcast (of course there
was no site ID at s/on), I find this unlikely at this hour over an all
daylite path., the long path seems even more
unlikely since Australian regulars on 49 meters at this time were not being
heard.
Perhaps I was hearing the DW Antiqua repeater or even possibly Sackville
activated by mistake (seems as if
I read other similiar stories about this lately.
The persons in the Canadian Maritimes were probably also having great
difficulty hearing their local service too.
I'll try to get more info on the Canadian on 6160.
feel free to repeat this information...
