2130- 6105- BRAZIL- R Cultura 2130 Sp rlg pgm, conducted by W w/ prayers
and evangelical mx ending. canned ID in PP by man, interestingly adding
the word "Filadelfia" to the stn name and ment. an addr different from
that one listed in WRTH 99: "Cultura Filadelfia de Foz de Iguazu, Rua
Antonio Barbosa 1353, Caixa Postal 89, 785851090, tele. 5232930, R
Cultura Filadelfia", followed by this one: " R Cultura Filadelfia de Foz

kHz...anunciando a palavra de Deus a tudas as naçoes, Cultura
Filadelfia, a frequencia da vida, a radio evangelica do Brasil",
"Cultura Filadelfia, muito mais...",stn jingle sung by female choir.
QRK 3/4. (Nigro-Uruguay, Mar 20)
2147- 6255- KAZAKSTAN- Kazak R. 2147 Presumed this one (as per
Pashkevich item in NU) with man-woman dialog; into familiar-sounding
anthem 2156 and off. Fair strength, but unseasonable QRN and atrocious
hum on carrier made readability almost impossible. Wonder why they would
be on at such an odd hour, when it's the middle of the night in
Kazakstan. (Hill, USA Mar. 10, 12)
2152- 6110.7- MOZAMBIQUE- R. Mocambique 2152 Possibly Maputo reactivated
here after a long absence, although only a carrier audible till 2213*,
which fits with typical RM s/off times. What say, Mahendra Vaghjee or
another African DXer? (Hill, USA Mar. 14)
2209- 7150- INDIA- AIR External Service 2209 GOS news in English //
9910/11620; almost no audio and constantly cutting off and on past 2215,
although parallel freqs were OK throughout. (Hill, USA Mar. 10)
2218- 7175 ITALY- RAI HS 1, Sicily 2218 Man interviewing woman over the
phone, or so it seemed; mentioned Radiouno at 2225, but this channel is
supposed to be Radiodue, so it was probably just a promo for their
sister network. At the same time, 6060 and 9515 (Radiouno) were also
coming through with talk. Unusual to hear all three Caltanissetta
transmitters at the same time. (All-Italian, of course.) (Hill, USA Mar.
10)
2230- 9774.4- BULGARIA- R. Varna 2230 Presumed this one with man
interviewing woman in Slavic language (Bulgarian might be a good guess)
interspersed with Balkan-sounding pop duets, sounding like several cuts
from the same CD. Emphatic mention of Varna at 2252 by the endlessly
chattering woman. At 2300 fanfare, pips, unreadable announcement; audio
then changed to telephone-quality, suggesting a relay. This on Mar. 14
but not since then; was recently reported as operating Sundays only, on
9774.8. (Hill, USA)
2230- 4917,6- BRAZIL- Radio CBN-Anhanguera (t), 22:30-22:45 UTC, news
bulletin, after, brasilean music, 2.3.3.3.2 (Slaen, Argentina march 13)
2236- 7100.1- UNID- Unid R. 2236 Here again with pop vocals that I'd
describe as Western with a strong Middle Eastern influence. Brief
announcements by woman in language I couldn't ID because of very low
audio. Off at 2254 after a few bars of Greek-sounding instrumental
music. Fair to good strength with intermittent ham QRM, particularly on
LSB. This on Mar. 7; not there any day since. (Hill,USA)

CLANDESTINE, ABKHAZIA - Mailing letter to Suchumi R. Republik Abkhazia:
For all who are trying to get in touch with them, it may be important to
note that Sukhumi is now called Sukhum, probably to emphasize their
independence from Tbilisi ("Sukhumi" sounds a bit Georgian, rather than
Abkhaz or Russian). There is still strong tension in Tbilisi-Sukhumi
relations, despite the recently reported success in peace negotiations.
Other reports from the region tell it differently. The clue to many
failures in trying to mail to Sukhum is that snail mail is going via
Tbilisi. So I'd advise DXers who are still trying to get something from
RRA to write "Sukhumi" on the envelope, but use "Sukhum" inside. Not a
big deal, but may be helpful. Good luck. (Titarev-UKR via NU 1517 / CRW

ARGENTINA- RAE, Radiodifusion Argentina al Exterior, add the following
Email to the previously in use: <RNA@xxxxxxxx>. 73s (Gabriel Ivan
Barrera, Argentina)
BELGIUM - [non]. On RVI Radio World Mar 14, Frans Vossen said the new
0400 to WNAm via Bonaire 15565 would be the first broadcast of the day
as Joe Hanlon has reported, but then in the next breath said it would be
a repeat of the 2230 broadcast! So which is it?! (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF
RADIO 981/ GH SHORTWAVE/DX REPORT 99-13, March 17)
COLOMBIA- La Voz de la Resistencia del Bloque Oriental, FARC-EP
clandestine, heard March 11 until closing just after 1200 on 6170
[probably rounded from 6168.3 where Rafael Rodriguez has measured it and
where we hear traces of it]. Gave sked as 1130 and 2130 on
this frequency, 1700-1800 on "VHF 7735". And read communique which
admits that the three American missionaries whose bodies were dumped in
Venezuela were executed by Commander Guildardo's Tenth Front, without
consulting higher FARC authority. They had entered into Cubas indian
territory without permission. It is not FARC policy to disappear
Colombians or people of other nationalities. Those seeking to enter FARC
territory should identify themselves and seek permission in order to
avoid any further such lamentable incidents. Nor is it FARC policy to
turn over their combatants to other states, but Cmdr. Galdardo will be
punished according to FARC law (via Jorge Garcia Rangel, Venezuela,
MUNDO RADIAL, in gh's summary translation -- I suppose that news
agencies have picked up this development? But I haven't seen or heard
it. / GH SHORTWAVE/DX REPORT 99-13, March 17)
COLOMBIA- FARC clandestine La Voz de la Resistencia del Bloque Oriental
presumed on 6168.3, bits of music and talk audible around 1145 March
16, but fading into daylight; a bigger problem is the mixing product of
R. Marti on 6170, from the two superpower signals on 5890 and 6030, 140
kHz apart, which lasts until 1200* (Glenn Hauser, OK, MUNDO RADIAL/ GH
SHORTWAVE/DX REPORT 99-13, March 17)
COSTA RICA- RFPI's 15049 was noted back on the air Tuesday evening, UT
Wed March 17, even past 0300 still on and holding up. We hope RFPI will
keep it on later, even all night with spring and summer propagation
conditions. Morning of March 17, no sign yet of revived 21460-USB. James
Bean tells me from Maine that 15049 was even better than 6975. The
latter has also been edged by an almost-constant open carrier on 6979.4,
seemingly from Europe; and briefly around 0315 a huge noisy signal
appeared around 6969 (Glenn Hauser, REVIEW OF INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING
/ GH SHORTWAVE/DX REPORT 99-13, March 17)
MONGOLIA- VOM 12085 checked Monday Mar 15 at 1235 during Mailbag; clear
but rather heavy flutter and accent difficult to understand. A bit
better the next morning, with slight het. Still puts an umlaut on the O
of Mongolia (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 981 / GH SHORTWAVE/DX
REPORT 99-13, March 17)
NORWAY- NRK's Kvitsoy transmitter site is off the air because of a break
in an undersea power cable, so there is no coverage of the
eastern hemisphere. They have been contacting Sweden about possible
temporary use of Hoerby site. All per Olav Grimdalen, who BTW is
retiring at end of April, but may continue doing some frequency
management on interim basis (Joe Hanlon, Kulpsville PA, March 11,
WORLD OF RADIO 981 / GH SHORTWAVE/DX REPORT 99-13, March 17)
URUGUAY- Re. WRTH 99 entry in "Shortwaves" for *6000 CXA2 Radiomundo,
Montevideo, this should be deleted. (Nigro-Uruguay, Mar 19)
USA- Checked 11900, 11905 and 11910 several times in the 0000-0200
period UT Sun March 14, and no sign of WWBS Macon. What's wrong ?
(Glenn Hauser, REVIEW OF INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING / GH SHORTWAVE/DX
REPORT 99-13, March 17)
USA- TIME CHANGE: On Sunday, April 4, 1999, most of North America and
some other parts of the Americas change to summer time. All of our
programs on WRMI remain at the same local time (Eastern time). This
means that the UTC times of all programs on WRMI changes on April 4th to
one hour earlier. For example, a program on the air at 11:00 p.m.
Eastern time was on at 0400 UTC until April 4, but as of that date it
changed to 0300 UTC, although it is still on at 11:00 p.m. Eastern
time. --- NEW WRMI WEB SITE: Now theres an easy way to keep up with the
frequent program changes at WRMI. Check out our new web site
(http://members.xoom.com/wrmi) for the very latest schedule, updated as
frequently as necessary. --- NEW SCHEDULE AND EXPANDED RELAYS OF RADIO
PRAGUE VIA WRMI: Beginning April 4, 1999, Radio Pragues Spanish-language
program will be heard at 0200-0230 UTC seven days per week. This is
followed by their Czech-language program from 0230-0300 UTC and their
English-language program from 0300-0330 UTC (both of these also seven
days per week). All on 9955 kHz. Incidentally, the audio quality of the
Spanish-language relays should be improving shortly as arrangements are
being made to feed the program to WRMI via satellite. (Right now, we
take the feed directly off of shortwave.) --- "AERORADIO" is the title
of a new weekly 15-minute travel program in Spanish sponsored by
Aeropostal Venezuelan airlines. Andrés Arenas hosts this segment, which
profiles popular tourist destinations in Venezuela and where Aeropostal
airlines flies. You can hear AeroRadio Sundays at 2230 UTC (2330 UTC
until April 4) on 9955 kHz. --- RADIO ESQUINA DE TANGO is a special
one-time-only music program from Argentina that will be broadcast by
WRMI on UTC Saturday, April 24 at 0100-0130 on 9955 kHz. (Thats Friday
night in the Americas.) The main objective of this program is to promote
the popular tango music of Buenos Aires. In this program, Armando Rivera
(Director General of Radio Esquina de Tango) will revive some great
tango classics interpreted by Carlos Gardel and others. Rivera himself
is a long-time tango singer and experienced radio announcer. Special QSL
cards will be issued for this transmission. They will be sent to all
listeners who send a reception report including return postage (an IRC
or two should do the trick) to: Radio Esquina de Tango, Casilla 2868,
Buenos Aires 1000, Argentina. Thanks to Norberto Pugliese and J.
Larocca, who are the producers of this special shortwave program.
Norberto Pugliese was also responsible for the well-publicized
transmission of the Buenos Aires-based Radio La Colifata via WRMI. ---
VIVA MIAMI SPECIALS FROM ARGENTINA: Recently, WRMI general manager Jeff
White and his wife Thaís visited with WRMI listeners in five different
cities throughout Argentina: Buenos Aires, Rosario, Mar del Plata,
Mendoza and Córdoba. In each of those cities, they recorded special
programs with well-known shortwave listeners and DXers. These will be
presented on the Spanish-language program "Viva Miami" during the week
of March 29-April 4. See the schedule below for exact times of Viva
Miami. And remember that from March 29-April 3, all programs are one
hour later (according to UTC) than what is printed on this schedule.
