[HCDX]: HIGH NOON SW SUMMER RECEPTION IN AUSTRALIA!
MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE ELECTRONIC DX PRESS (AUSTRALIA)
FREE!!! NEW SPECIAL MONITORING PUBLICATION!!!
========================================
HIGH NOON SUMMER SHORTWAVE DX RECEPTION IN AUSTRALIA!
I am pleased to advise that the latest HIGH FREQUENCY SPECTRUM STUDY (N0.6)
is now available, free of charge, from the Electronic DX Press.
This new Study, authored by the undersigned, covers shortwave reception in
Australia from November 1, 1998 until January 31, 1999, for the B98
Transmission Period, of commercial broadcasters heard between 0000 and 0400
UTC on frequencies up to 9999 kHz.
The Study gives aggregated details of actual monitoring made by a number of
hobbyists over the three-month period, showing spectrum occupancy,
languages, times audible, sign-on and sign/off times, transmitter sites,
and other details, of stations in all continents, and includes data for the
unusual Midday Summer Mode. This Mode occurs each summer and is marked by
weird and unexplained reception across the Australian noon period of
transmitters in Asia and Africa on frequencies down to 4 MHz, of up to
11,000 km across daylight paths!
The Study is in two parts:
Part 1:
A description of the Mode, including
- The history of the Mode since the 1950s
- The appearance of the Mode over the past 40 years
- Reception highlights over the years
- Technical discussion of propagation effects
- Analysis of propagation patterns
- Effects of geophysical events
- The Petersen Ray propagation process
- Complex-mode propagation
- Sporadic-E effects
- Ducting effects
- Ozone depletion affecting long distance propagation
- Hypotheses of possible causes of the Mode
Part 2:
A table in frequency order showing country, organisation, transmitter site,
languages, times heard and sign-off and sign-on times observed within the
four hour study period.
This special Monitoring Study is being made available free of charge via
E-mail to anyone who requests it.
- Part 1: A message text (25K) approximately 8 pages A4)
- Part 2: An Excel 7.0 file (19K) (.xls) (Binary Attachment)
The Excel file is not compressed, encrypted, or locked, and may be
reformatted to suit your individual requirements.
Print copies of the Study are also available for a nominal charge to cover
printing and mailing costs
- To Australian addresses: A$5 (cash, postal order, cheque, or 5 IRCs)
- To other addresses (economy airmail): US$5 (cash), A$5 (cash),
international bank draft on an Australian bank to yield A$5, or 5 IRCs
Receipt of the study implies that it will not be redistributed for
commercial purposes.
The Study will be included within the product list offered by the EDXP DX
Radio Bookshop to the global radio monitoring community.
