With what you have described here as usuable  reels, you could put one or
more miles of wire on them.  I am not sure I could pick it up.  The reels
that I am talking about are about a foot in diameter and usually used for
rolling up long extension cords.  I have had several thousand fee on one and
still able to put more on. The problem is the weight.  A bit hard to hold in
one hand and crank with the other.  I am not a weight lifter but just a
skinny guy!
