Re: [HCDX]: Grounding!
I have no idea of where you live or the soil conditions. The best soil
conditions would be moist clay like and the worst being sand. The more
moisture, the better. One really important thing is to not use bare copper
stranded wire as the wx will kill it in no time. Make sure it is plastic
coated and I would go the extra bit and silver solder all connections you
can. Use a good quality coax cable and no junk from the shack. (RS). You
want to ground everything, receivers, coax and the works..... 7 rods spaced
about 1 meter or less apart will work very nicely. Two feet might be the
best. 7 rods might be a little over kill but hey, if you feel strong, go
for it. If using clamps I would silver solder all connection wires and
pipes as silver solder will cut down on much of the noise and also a better
connection. I am only using 3 one meter solid copper rods. One of them is
at the base of a drain spout for maximun moisture. I have had to replace
the main ground cable once so far in 5 years. Rotted right off. Now using
single "0" stranded plastic coated cable. All silver soldered together and
everything in the shack is grounded to this cable. Even the bench. The
ultimate is to use a screen under the sod as it will achieve the best ground
possible but an incredible job and expense.
Hope that is of some help
