BOB PADULA - As a result of massive "representations" from EDXP
recipients, EDXP will return shortly! I guess that the antics of some
misguided Australian "hobbyists" be ignored,  in favour of the broader
perspective which EDXP offers. The editorial in EDXP 102 will give some
details of these issues. I also take this opportunity to advise that I
am reviewing the scope, purpose, resourcing, and objectives of EDXP, and
in particular the extent to which "loggings" should be included, which
in most cases are merely multiple mailings ofrepeats of information sent
to other electronic DX newsletters, such as NU, Cumbre-DX,
rec.radio.shortwave,  BCDX, DX- Window, hard-core-dx, the 4-Winds
Newsletter, Relampago DX, Jembatan DX, Rus-DX, etc, etc. I do not see
EDXP wanting to compete with its sibling newsletters  and I will be
guided by your further input. E-mail allows almost instantaneous
transfer of information to multitudes of recipients,.and for DX news,
many recipients receive most, if not all of the various newsletters!
This issue was discussed at the recent EDXC Conference in Gothenburg,
Sweden, with a general view being expressed that there were too many of
these multiple-addressed E-mail DXing newsletters, most of which contain
the same information "spammed" by everyone! The matter is fast becoming
"information overload" - frankly, I have virtually given up attempting
to read all these things, some of which are now running to rather large
file lengths of around 70k. There is also the problem of individuals
sending everyone copies of their own personalised sets of loggings every
day or so, often to several scores of addressees. This is getting far
too hard to handle, and much of this stuff is deleted without reading,
even though sent with good intentions. EDXP was established as a "news
source" and was never intended to compete with the DX Clubs or other
DXing newsletters,.I would like to see that sort of presence maintained.
One Australian recipient of EDXP recently became very angry when I
rejected his routine  "loggings" of some easily heard Latin American and
African stations, even though I tried to direct him to the "EDXP
Regulations"!!! Bob Padula, Melbourne. (Welcome back with your excellent

bulletins on line and / or have not time to collect them via e-mail

AL QUAGLIERI - Anyone help with this? Monitored in upstate NY:
9649.44-9649.48v UNID noted at 0816 t/in on 6-Nov, M ancr in unid
(middle eastern?) language in between patriotic-type songs (of
indeterminate ethnic origin, as many patriotic songs seem to be).
Program ended 0853 w/M ID in local lang then FF ("...Islamique?..."),
then W ID's and reads frequencies, plug pulled @0855 without anthem or
IS. Fair, moderately fast QSB, murky audio. Karachi?

HAROLD SELLERS - Coe Hill DXpedition Report by Harold Sellers Coe Hill
is a small village in cottage country, north-east of Peterborough,
Ontario, about a 3-hour drive from Toronto. From October 30 to November
1, four DXers - Ken Alexander, Dan Greenall, Harold Sellers and Niel
Wolfish -listened from a fully-equipped and very comfortable cottage
owned by Ken's landlord.  The land is lightly developed, with few
buildings or people, forested with tall hardwood trees and no electrical
noise (as long as we don't use the light dimmers in the cottage!).
Antennas erected were a 1500 ft Beverage oriented east towards Europe
and a 500 ft longwire directed south. A multicoupler fed the selected
antenna to our four receivers. The weather was ideal throughout the
weekend: clear skies, mild days, cold nights. On the drive to Coe Hill
on Thursday evening, a beautiful shooting star streaked across the sky.
Thousands of stars filled the sky every night. Reception highlights
included Vatican Radio on 1611 kHz very strong from sunset on October
30th; a number of European and African longwave broadcasters; Voice of
Mongolia 12085 very good for English at 1230 UTC both October 31 and
Nov. 1; a good opening to Indonesia at 1200 UTC Nov. 1; and several
other seldom heard Asian stations. The Ontario DX Association's annual
DX Challenge contest kicked off at 0000 UTC Nov. 1. Over the next 15
hours, Harold heard 100 countries on shortwave, Niel had 90, while Ken
logged over 40 countries on the Tropical bands. Dan discovered one of
the most entertaining programs of the weekend: the local Bancroft AM
station carrying a live bingo game! Now that's exciting programming!
NOT! So, on to my loggings (selected ones). My receiver was a Japan
Radio NRD-515 and the antennas were as mentioned above. HTS/C : Coe Hill

ASSOCIAZIONE ITALIANA RADIOASCOLTO --- AIR Contest 1999 "Attilio 
Leoni"  (Up to dated).  The AIR Contest 1999 "Attilio Leoni", will start
at 1700UTC on January 5th, 1999, and will end at midnight UTC on January
17th, 1999. Participation is open for all radiolisteners, AIR members
and non members alike. The Contest is divided into the following parts:
First part: free listening on 41 meters band between the range 7100 to
7590kHz, from January 5th at 1700UTC to January 10th, 1999, at midnight
UTC, in any language. Second part: listening to programmes in any
language of the following stations, at any time from January 11th at
0000UTC to January 17th, 1999, at midnight UTC (on broadcast frequencies

Each station can be logged only once. The listening report will have a
minimum time of 15 minutes. The reports must contain all usefull
references (frequency, UTC time, station name, language, the most
important details for  a good valuation, SINPO code), technical data
receiver, antenna and optionals). The listening list, with your
paticipation fee, must be sent to this address:  Bruno PECOLATTO, AIR
Contest Manager ,  via Soana  13, I-10085 PONT CANAVESE (TO) - ITALY,
e-mail:<pecolatto@xxxxxxxxx> Not lather than February 27th, 1999 (date
of postmark). On the same report the participant must indicate his name
and surname, complete address and a short declaration as follow: "I take
the responsibility on myself that I listened to all the stations
reported during the time of validity of contest".  All details will be
very important for a correct estimate of the contest results and for
additional controls the Contest Manager could ask your audio-tape.
During the contest some  monitor stations will listen off. The scores
will be computed on a base of 101 = points for each station deducting
the participants percentage that listened to  the same station. Decimal
will not be considered. A bonus of 200 points will be awarded to all
those who will report the highest number of programme  details for each
station and not only generic terms such as news, music, comments, etc.
The participation fee are 6 IRCs to be sent with your listening list to
Contest Manager. Each participant will receive a certificate of
participation. Prizes list is the following: 1st prize: radio controlled
table clock offered by A.I.R. 2nd prize: a copy of the book "La radio di
carta" offered by Mosè Edizioni 3rd prize: a copy of the book "Your VHF
companion" offered by Pirate News 4th prize: a radio amateur's world map
offered by A.I.R. Two AIRs pin, the books "Radio Caroline" and "Amico
Elettrone" offered by Pirate News, the book "Guida all'ascolto delle
utility" offered by C&C Edizioni, the book "Le pagine gialle delle
radio" offered by A.I.R., two copy of the books "Amica radio" offered by
Luigi Cobisi and Edizioni Medicea and one philatelix box offered by
Piero Castagnone will be drawn mong all the participants. For every
other information, please write to Contest Manager(see the address) and
enclose one IRC.

A.I.R. QUESTIONAIRE
On the occasion of the bicentenary of the electric battery, which was
invented by Alessandro Volta towards the end of 1799, please answer the
following three questions correctly and you will be awarded 100 extra
points (to be filled in and sent to the Contest Manager):
1 - Where and in what year was Alessandro Volta born ?
2 - What famous person awarded him a gold medal and the title of count ?
3 - Volta's experiments started from those of a contemporary Italian
anatomist. Who was he ?

information, "beaming Eastern USA." Played some Thai music with female
announcer then into the News read by a male announcer. Excellent signal

man with Christian sermon - talking about God, 0036 TC and ID. Fair.

and found open carrier.  AIR IS came one at 0225.  Even weaker than

0250- 9165- AZERBAIJAN- Voice of Azerbaijan is being heard consistently
(eNAm) now from fade in around 1700 to 1900 s/off, again 0250 with
carrier on, s/on 0314 to 0400 s/off. Station shifted one hour later with
move to Winter time. Signals in the last hour before s/off exceptionally
good today, but no identification. Best time to tape a good ID is s/on.

commentary for today' about political instability in Africa, all this in

after carrier had been on for some time with occasional tapping sounds,
came on with upbeat music, male announcer in English at 0644 announcing

0651- 5470- LIBERIA- R. Veritas, 0651-0706, Talk by man, music bridge
and man and woman announcers with ID as "...tuned to "Good Morning
Liberia" on R. Veritas.  The time is 7 o'clock", 2 time pips, and brief
music.  Fairly decent signal but muffled audio with annoying popping. 
Religious talk by man over instrumental music at 0740 recheck.  (Valko,
