An item from the Nordic Shortwave Service:
Experience has shown that solar storms not
only dampens a lot of radio signals, they also
opens now possibilities for weaker tropical
stations.
One possible explanation to this is that while
signals from the tropical
regions also are affected by the solar storm,
they are not affected as much
as other signals around the polar regions, thus
reaching farther than usual.
So give a try, see if you can hear some unusual
stations from
Indonesia/Central Africa or Peru/Bolivia.
The present flare on the Sun is a large one,
covering between 12.5 and 24.7
square degrees on the Sun's surface. The assumed
coronal mass ejection
from this major flare is expected to strike the
Earth sometime on August 27,
according to Solar Terrestrial Dispatch.
