[HCDX]: Annular eclipse DXped
Well, despite the effort, there was no change in propagation observed
during August 22nds annular eclipse though we were able to observe a small
portion of the Sun's surface being eclipsed.
On the whole, reception from South America on SW was better than it's been
for the last few months and a few other interesting signals were
observed...
ARGENTINA
6060 R Nacional, 0737, good signal, reactivated (thanks to tip from Arnaldo
Slaen in GRP), id and orchestral music. Ormandy Aug 22
6240 Unid 0324, USB relay of Argie FM station to the ice. Very good signal
and when checked at 0400, went right through the hour with talk and no id.
Ormandy Aug 22
BELARUS (tent.)
4983 Belarus Radio, 0318, presume the one here in USB with program in
Russian-sounding language. Didn't hang around long enough for an id - was
chasing annular anomalies! Ormandy Aug 22
BOLIVIA
6025 R Illimani, 0245, male DJ with messages interspersed with Andean flute
music, in clear with poor-fair signal and much stronger than //4945 at same
time. Ormandy Aug 22
CUBA
11875 R Habana, 0251, noted here in SS // to 11760 and 11970 though weaker
than either. 11875 also had transmitter hum whereas it's 25mb siblings were
clean. Ormandy Aug 22
NEW ZEALAND
7240 & 7340 ZLXA Radio Reading Service, 0345, presume with transmitter
problems with these freqs being 50kHz above and below the nominal 7290 and
both having dirt audio. Ormandy Aug 22
PERU
5068 R Ondas del Sur Oriente, 0341, strongest ever heard - usually kicked
to death by WWCR, id and dedications then chicha music, heard past 0420.
Ormandy Aug 22
6045 0741 R Santa Rosa, 0741, female announcer with Bible readings. Good
signal, haven't noted this one for a while. Ormandy Aug 22
UNID
4574.2 Unid Peruvian(?), 0417, station running "La Voz de la Liberacion"
program though not // R Victoria 9721. Poor signal with heavy utility QRM
from 4575. Ormandy Aug 22
7000 Utility, 0352, before you think "what's a utility doing here?" - the
operators of this station were rebroadcasting a local AM station between
QSOs. Had me fooled to start though USB mode was a warning sign, station id
was "Caronita AM" and the program was "Musica por cable", running EE pops.
Ormandy Aug 22
11953 Chinese language station, 0209, presumed the Xizang, Tibet station
listed in the WRTH nominally on 11950 though slash was pretty horrendous.
Ormandy Aug 22
VIETNAM via RUSSIA
7250 Voice of Vietnam, 0240, good signal in English with feature on
traditional medicine, though some transmitter hum. Ormandy Aug 22
