IRCA Mexican Log, 5th Edition
The IRCA is proud to announce the release of the 5th edition of its
MEXICAN LOG. The IRCA MEXICAN LOG log lists all AM stations in Mexico
by frequency, including call letters, state, city, day/night power,
slogans, schedule in UTC/GMT, formats, networks and notes. In
addition, stations that have changed frequency since 1996 are
cross-referenced on the old frequency. The call letter index gives
call, frequency, city and state. The city index (listed by state, then
city) includes frequency, call and day/night power. The log has been
completely updated from the 1996 edition and carefully cross-checked by
IRCA members in Mexico and the US. This is an indispensable reference
for anyone who hears Mexican radio stations. Size is 8 1/2" x 11" and
three hole punched for easy binding (optional).
Prices: IRCA/NRC members - $7.00 (US/Canada/Mexico/seamail), $8.00

Cris Alexander, DE of Crawford Broadcasting, Charlie Gallagher of
Gallagher and Assoc, and I finished tuning up the new expansion band
station in the Portland, Or, area, KKJY, 1640, Lake Oswego, Or. It
duplicates the programming of KKSL, 1290. It is a religious format.
KKJY is diplexed into one tower of the three tower KKPZ, 1330, array
which is also owned by Crawford. The bigeest problem in tuning things
up was restoring the 1330 pattern after the diplexing filters were
installed.
The station will officially sign on on Monday, but is likely to be on
the air a fair amount for testing until then.
We are interested in receiving reports about the station's nighttime
coverage. We are particularly interested in finding out the level of
interference to/from the Vallejo, Ca, station on the same frequency,
and where this interference is located. We are also interested to see
if there are any areas of self interference.
Please make your reports brief. I'm sure Cris would appreciate an
e-mail copy of your reports at CBCENG@xxxxxxxx

Larry Godwin - Missoula MT - lbg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
On April 14 at 2250 EDT I first noted KKJY-1640-Lake Oswego, OR, with
1,000 cycle tone and then soul music. The ID was for KKSL, its
affiliate on 1290. I phoned the station; same number as KKSL
(503-242-1950). A station person said the first broadcast day was
April 13. It's much stronger than KDIA here.
****
Pat Martin - Seaside OR - mwdxer@xxxxxxxxx
After receiving the E Mail from Larry Godwin, I checked again and the
station is hrd here on the Northern Oregon coast very very weak. Last
night I could barely notice something way behind KDIA and I mean WAY
WAY behind. I wonder if alot of the X Band stations will have signals
like this? Time will tell. There is number 7 now on the air.
As I type this KKSL-1640-Lake Oswego OR is indeed testing with signals
now about S9 out here on the Oregon coast. They may be testing with
10KW. Mostly an OC (Open Carrier). This is much stronger than they were
earlier. They plan on be on by Monday (April 20th). This is #7 of the
X-Band stations. Larry Godwin-Montana logged them yesterday quite good.
I wish we would be getting more EC X-Band stations on the air. At this
point their 10KW is much stronger than the 1KW here. Maybe those higher
freks skip over me with the nearby stations KYIZ isn't that strong
either. KDIA is a powerhouse at night, still hrd during the day weakly,
but that might be a sign of the past.
1640-KKSL-OR LAKE OSWEGO, fair with lots of QRM from KDIA, KKSL w/Black
Gospel pgm at 2300 EDT (0300 UTC), many KKSL IDs. Only could log with 3
foot Sanserino Loop, as KDIA was too strong off all my other antennas.
This was on 4/15. Taped report sent. (PM-OR)

I phoned WKSH 1370 Sussex WI yesterday to ask for an update on their
move to 1640. They gave me a target date of June 1, and confirmed that
they will leave 1370 when they move to 1640. The calls will be WKSH,
format religious.
All the details are in my web site:
http://www.angelfire.com/wi/dxing/index.html
on the "news and notes" page.

For some years I have sent many of you various e-mail messages when
I had some new information on stations I hear, whether at home or on
trips. I have now set up a web page, and plan to post these same items
there, rather than e-mailing them. The URL is:
http://www.angelfire.com/wi/dxing/index.html
I invite to you check the site from time to time if you are
interested in radio in and around Wisconsin. But be forewarned: I'm
just getting started! There's not too much there yet.

2010 MW mod: HPF bypass
For those of you with a direct-connect MW loop antenna, especially the
unamplified type, and who don't mind experimenting:
Disable the external antenna High-Pass Filter by detaching L305 on the
jack board. It looks like a lime-green quarter-watt resistor, and is
clearly labeled. Carefully apply de-soldering braid to its trace-end
with the least amount of components nearby. The lead is bent flat, so
you may have to coax it up while it's heated. Once the lead is free,
you can bend it straight, and carefully pull it through the circuit
board. Bend it slightly to the side, so it won't fall back through the
hole. Leaving the other end in place allows you to easily reverse this
modification, if needed.
Results: My IRCA spiral loop antenna is now quite useful when plugged
into the 2010. It doesn't have as much gain as inductively coupling the
loop to the 2010, but the signal/static ratio is improved. Reception up
to around 3 MHZ is improved with the 20' wire.
If you live near strong broadcast stations, or use long outdoor
antennas with the 2010, you may want to keep the High-Pass Filter.
