At least in Finland the rules of the Finnish DX Association (FDXA) don't
say anything about this, and I personally don't see it as a problem.
I use two receivers on DXpeditions, but definitely not most of the time -
who would ever have the time to go through recordings made during a week
or even two if you recorded 20 hrs a day nonstop? The lack of time is an
efficient constraint.
Using two receivers is limited to situations when conditions are really
good and even then you don't just randomly pick up a frequency and let it
roll on your tape. Once you get used to it, you can listen actively to
both radios. For instance, I have the earphone-plugs connected so that
with one switch, I can instantly switch back and forth from one radio to
monitor the other - and change any parameters (frequency, antenna, filters
etc) actively on both receivers. Using two receivers and two recorders
just makes frequency-hopping easier - and on the other hand can even
result in better reception reports. This is because once I ID an
interesting station, I have the other receiver-recorder remain on the
frequency longer and get more program details and continue a more active
search with the other receiver.
Another point, listening in various locations, is somewhat limited in the
FDXA rules. In the FDXA you only get station and country points of
stations heard within the borders of your own country, in the case
Finland. So you can't make a DXpedition to the Pacific to catch some
rarities on neighbouring islands. I think this makes sense. I travel a lot
and also enjoy listening to radio on my journeys, but I never file any
reception reports. I personally don't consider it challenging enough.
Experience has shown that if conditions are ideal and equipment
(especially antennae) are good, just about anything is possible. It may
take 30 years of trying, but when you eventually strike lucky, it's so
sweet...
