terribly modulated audio from a very sick transmitter. Maputo doesn't
seem to use a 4 note gong on the hour any more. No sign of Beira-9637v

nicely into audio w/Easy Listening music at tune-in; 7-note IS theme on
stringed instrument repeated 6 or 7 times at 2230, then male anncr as
audio faded out. Fair level during peak which was best <2220>. Hadn't
hrd this afternoon LP signal for quite some time.  *  2155-2226 Dec 27,
carrier fading up to bits of SCI and 2200 Jak news by woman. Missed
anthem but peaking 2217 / 2225 w/Indo pops. Weak compared to prior day,

ARMENIA - I hate to be repetitive, but as long as V. of Armenia
continues to claim English is at 2145 on 9965, and actually run it at
2115, it's worthy of note. This was still the case on Dec 29 check; BTW,
CRI is also on 9965 until 2127* (Glenn Hauser, OK / SW/DX Report 97-28,
Dec 31, 1997)

AUSTRALIA - RA sent a revised frequency guide as of Dec 22, with these
broadcasts to Asia marked as those which may be heard in Europe:
1330-1700 11660, 1430-2200 9500, 2130-2300 11695 (Hauser, REVIEW OF
INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTING / SW/DX Report 97-28, Dec 31, 1997)

COSTA RICA - Continent of Media, my monthly supplement to World of
Radio, aired weekly on RFPI only, has a new time for the first quarter,
starting Jan 2--Fri 1930, Sat 0330, 1030, that is just preceding World
of Radio. However, the Jan edition will not start until the 9th. For the
time being, subject to change, the previous time of Wed 2300, Thu 0700
also continues (Glenn Hauser, OK / SW/DX Report 97-28, Dec 31, 1997)

ECUADOR - Thanks to Ken MacHarg who upon my request belatedly
acknowleged on HCJB DX Partyline Dec 27 the source of the Liberia item
he used 3 weeks earlier; but he could not bring himself to mention my
name. For the record, here is what he said verbatim, as closely as I
could copy it: "By the way, I need to mention that a couple weeks ago on
the program we had an item on, about Liberia, and I neglected to mention
that that item came from EDXP from an article in the Detroit News, also
broadcast by World of Radio. And to those who might think that as
someone said that I took the words of that right out of someone's
mouth-- I wouldn't do that. Taking words out of someone's mouth is

INDONESIA - When I visited the RRI transmitters at Cimanggis in December
1984 the situation was as follows: Building 1: 4775 PHILIPS txer 50 kW,
built in the 70's I guess, target area east and west Indonesia, 3 other
old PHILIPS txers (inactive and broken); 6045 TELEFUNKEN txer 120 kW,
built in the 60's, target area central Indonesia, another TELEFUNKEN
txer, built in the 50' I guess, (inactive and broken), 4 HARRIS txers
100 kW, built in the early 80's, broadcasting on 7270, target area
central Indonesia, 9680 9770 (?) and 11770 11790 FUNKWERKE KOEPENICK
(Made in GDR) 100 kW (but output was less than 100 kW), built in the
50's or 60's, used for VOICE OF INDONESIA, 15150 FUNKWERKE KOEPENICK
(Made in GDR) 50 kW (but output was less than 50 kW), also from the 50'
or 60's and used for VOICE OF INDONESIA. Building 2: 11700 THOMSON-CSF
txer 250 kW, installed in 1984. It seems that the old GDR txers and the
TELEFUNKEN txer are inactive now. I don't know anything about the
Jakarta-Kebayoran station. (Juergen Lohuis, Germany, via Wolfgang

INDONESIA - Voice of Indonesia noted in Malay at 0930 on 11785 on 3 Jan
continuing after English 0800-0900 (at variance with sked in EDXP 72).
Also heard 3 Jan with English 0100-0200, so seems to have settled
(momentarily) here. Also look out for the 'Kang Guru' program in English
heard on Mondays between 1000-1030 on RRI 'Radio Nasional Dua' channels,
including 9680, 11750 and 11885. Sponsored by the 'Indonesian Australian
Language Foundation', and gives postal address of Kotapos 3095,
Denpasar. Program on 29 Dec focused on Australian aid projects in
Indonesia. (Matt Francis, 1 Jan / EDXP # 75).

ITALY - NEXUS/IBA or IRRS/SW says it may be difficult to survive in 1998
with the Italian PTT imposing a $15,000 licensing fee on this private,
noncommercial operation. Those who can help are asked to E-mail
info@xxxxxxxxx  Also, on too-short notice, IRRS ran a Christmas one-hour
special Two Bobs reunion, which is supposed to continue available in
RealAudio via <http://www.nexus.org/IRN > but Pete Costello says error
