Randy Stewart - Springfield MO - JRS555T@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
1340 KIDS MO Springfield, has been off the air for the past two or three
weeks. Current license holder, who was operating the station
with a TIS format ["Branson Information Radio"], defaulted on
payments for studio/transmitter/tower facility, and longtime
owners the Kramer family shut him down. (The Kramers operated
the station as a Top 40 in the 1950s thru the early 80s, then a
satellite oldies format, finally a LOCALLY-originated kids'
format before selling.) So, he has the 1340 license but no
facility!

Trans-Arctic/Atlantic conditions in Victoria, B.C., Canada once again, 0430
to after 0500 UTC on 5 October
1314 kHz, with audio (mostly man and woman talking), poor to fair and back
to a carrier through this period
TA carriers at various times with varying strength: 1611, 1395, 1377,
(1375...St. Pierre again?), 1323, 1251, 1116, 1053, 936, 855.
Oddest one was a fat carrier on 738 at a definite bearing of 35/215 degrees.
(Tahiti is at 205 degrees, so likely not them) Don't know who it might be,
and any audio was drowned out by splatter from 730.

DX TESTS:
1540 MI, KTGG Spring Arbor. 10-4 0005 - 0032. Mostly weak, partial code

bass-heavy Caribbean rhythms. (JD-AL)
OTHER:
1370 TX, KJCE Rollingwood. 10-4 2201-2205. Weak, but clear at times w/

afternoon drive show, heard "Right here on the Juice" during
announcements. (JD-AL)

1620 "KCR" CA, San Diego 10/9 2158 San Diego State University station
noted here with mindless rock music, non-ID at top of hour by
chipmunk-voiced student: "San Diego State University's KCR..."
This station used to be on 550 kHz several years ago. Seems to
get out pretty well, especially during gaps between useless
WPJ551's tape loop. This may have been the "pirate" that was
running the nonstop tape loop of black oldies several months
ago. (TRH-CA)

letters]
Full details of how to order the publication are available on the BDXC-UK
