VOLUME NINE - NUMBER THREE
September 21st 1997
Welcome ( "Ki Ora" in New Zealand Maori ).
This week has a varied amount of news in the weekly, so if you wish to
contribute anything about radio - DO SO !!
Just Email us at : kiwiradio@xxxxxxxxxxx
and we will do the rest for you.
Our Legal FM station "SOUNDWAVE FM" is due to start testing within the
next week on 100.60 MHz, with 88.60 MHz about a month later.
These are "Low-Powered" ( Micro Broadcasting ) stations, and it is
estimated that by the the end of March 1998 we will have a total of
8 - 10 such transmitters in operation covering a very large area using
the
receive and re-send system of relays.
Our initial programmes from October 1997 will be 100% NON-COMMERCIAL, as
we don't want to go the way that another certain "Micro-broadcaster" has
ended up sounding, despite making it public that he was to be "totally
commercial free" and a "hobby" station.
This "other" station now carries commercially sponsored News & Sports
bulletins, as well as a "commercially" active all night Television Music
programme called "Juice", along with a format during the day that makes
it almost impossible to see what differrence his station is from the
next station up the FM dial.
SOUNDWAVE FM will NOT be following this way with our programmes. The
programmes will of course have certain basic guidelines for content and
direction ( such as "moral" standards etc ),
but apart from that it will be the responsibility of each presenter to
maintain "Their" programme content in a way that not only Promotes
SOUNDWAVE FM, but also presents to the listeners the presenters identity
in music.
We have set up a small www page, that is to be expanded soon at:
http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/9885/sw1.html
KIWI Radio is planning a relay "via" Radio RJK on October 12th from
07.00 hrs UTC on 7475 KHz USB to say hello to members of
The ARDXC in Australia who will be having a DX get-together.
Also KIWI RADIO will be dusting off it's own transmitter to broadcast
a "SPECIAL" broadcast on Sunday October 26th at 06.30 UTC, again
on 7475 KHz USB for members of the New Zealand Radio DX League
who will be attending the AGM in Auckland.
KIWI Radio will be relaying Two programmes, one from the operator
of Radio 510 Switzerland with a "Special" Tribute programme for the
late Princess Diana, and the second will be from Radio Free London
Shortwave.
More details on each of the above closer to the dates.
Now onto other news: ------

QTH.Net Digests and Archives (for subscribers)
k7on@xxxxxxx
What about Digests and Archives?
A. Digests
All lists at QTH.Net have digests available.
You can subscribe to a digest and periodically receive the compiled
messages rather than individual messages.
All list digests are configured for a size limit of 40,000 bytes.
However, most of the files are around 16k to 30k. This is because
majordomo will NOT send a digest larger than the limit. If a new
message pushes beyond the limit, it sends the accumulated, putting
the new message in the NEXT digest.
If you are switching from non-digest to digest, you must unsubscribe
spooks and subscribe spooks-digest.
It is an entirely seperate subscription, but both digest and non-digest
subscribers are permitted to post to the non-digest list.

B. Archives
All messages sent via reflector are archived and are available for
access through majordomo.
You can send a command to majordomo@xxxxxxx and in the body type:
index spooks-digest
and get a list of files that are available by request.

EUROPEAN MUSIC RADIO - EMR:
Hello SW Friends,
After a few setbacks European Music Radio will return to the European SW
airwaves on Sunday October 5th. The station will be on air 24 hours on
either 48 metres or 51 metres (5805). The exact frequency will be
announced next week. What you will hear is the station's 20th birthday
programming.
E.M.R. started in May 1977 and was Europe's most popular SW station till
1980 when the station was raided. E.M.R. continued with 5th Sun trms
(via sister-station FRS-Holland) till June 1983 when station-OP Barry
Stephens decided to quit.
The October pxs will be partly repeat of pxs already aired via Ozone
Radio in April of this year. However, some fresh pxs have also been
recorded. The April broadcast was not a big success due to several
reasons. Barry Stephens hopes the upcoming broadcast will be heard by
more listeners. Conditions will be better than in April giving a
stronger signal.
Pxs will commence Saturday October 4th in the early evening hours
lasting till the Sunday evening October 5th. Programming will be in
Dutch, French & English hosted by Jean-Claude Georges, Barry Stephens &
Peter Verbruggen.
In future a German Service will be added. In November E.M.R. will
commence trms via its own 100W transmitter on a frequency within the 41
mb. Expect at least one test in the upcoming weeks, frequency could be
7345 kHz!! This frequency is used by Radio Prague but not for the whole
Sunday morning.
Last year's November tests were very successful. E.M.R. produced a
super-signal on 41 metres.
The return of E.M.R. is a postive development as there aren't that many
serious programming stations nowadays. E.M.R. will be a station with an
International flavour putting out a mix of oldies, European hit music &
radio news. A complete set of new jingles has been produced (in 4
languages).
Pxs won't be taking place every month, according to Barry Stephens most
pxs will be aired in the October-May period when conditions are
better/more reliable than the rest of the year.
An fantastic info-package is waiting for you including a large colour
QSL, large sticker and an info-sheet. Sticker and QSL contain the
well-known E.M.R. logo in red & blue.
It is to be hoped that listeners will respond in large numbers showing
they
are seriously willing to listen to stations such as E.M.R. Please
enclose
two IRC's/ two US dollars and write to: POBox 2727, 6049 ZG Herten in
the Netherlands. Make sure you tune in October 5th....E.M.R. is back on
SW!!
73's,
The EMR crew
