Howdy all & welcome to PiPa#199! (This is just the cover sheet, PiPa #199
should either be an attached file to this or should follow right after my
own greetings & name). If you only get the cover letter & not PiPa#199, drop
me a line...it's happened a few X....
News
WREC made the end of summer memorable! Nearly every time you turned
on the radio, there was PJ with the "End of Summer special." Good job--some
great signals there!
Plenty of other stations were on, and as mentioned in this issue,
Joe Momma formerly of Radio KAOS has returned with a new station, called
Radio Nonsense. I can never think of the name of this new station--I keep on
thinking it's Radio Ridiculous, a Europirate.
The first broadcast of Radio Free Information was a beauty start--a
very pro-sounding interview with Fearless Fred of Radio Garbanzo.
Radio Metallica Worldwide has continued to be noticeably silent. Dr.
T didn't return for PiPa#199, but they'll be back in #200...
A few Euros are making it West, but still not too much. With autumn
approaching, hopefully, we can pull out some more morning or nighttime tests
from Europe. Feel free to send me test notices for upcoming PiPas or for the
News section of RFI!
There's been a lot of talk about an event where 24 continuous hours
of pirate radio will be on the air. The initial thoughts were for shortwave
in North America, but folks've been talking about AM/FM simulcasting and
worldwide operations, as well. For more info, write to Max Gain at Radio
Free Jesus c/o the Huntsville address. Or you might catch Max on the FRN
Chat or Grapevine.

ITALIAN PIRATE BUSTED.
Giovanni Serra emailed us to say that the Italian pirate Radio Mariquita was busted on September 2nd by the Italian Escopost. The transmitter was taken. This info from the Radiorama Pirate News.

British RADIO ZODIAC is going to test towards the USA on September 7th from
00.15 UTC until about 06.00 UTC on 6400 kHz. Please spread this news in the
USA and around the world too. RADIO ZODIAC was on this Sunday too testing
the rig with a 10 minutes relay of EUROROCK at about 10.00 UTC and later a
test loop tape was aired for quite a while. Frequency was 6400 kHz.

In general very weak conditions on the sunday morning because of very long
skip. Crazy Wave Radio and RFL had the most stable signals all over Europe.

RADIO TITANIC INETRNATIONAL has been active again after a while this sunday
in the 48 metre band. You may use the Wuppertal and the SRS service for the
correspondence. Meanwhile many listeners seem to have received their QSL
package for the past years' reports. Surprisingly another station with the
name STATION TITANIK with a Dutch accented operator was heard this saturday
too. No mailing address was given but maybe someone can help?!
There is no connection to the German R.TITANIC INTERNATIONAL.

OK so Diana's dead, but life goes on. The pirates didn't cover the news like the worlds media have today, which means that for escaping the blanket coverage which has been on TV and radio today, the free stations have provided a real alternative.

Good conditions all day Saturday with UK Radio hitting London with
a S4 for the first time !!!!!! on 6267kHz. Also on Saturday, RFL cocked-up
by broadcasting two hours of the wrong programmes, when a tape of the
AM service that is on 1125 was taken to the site.
The splash from The Farmers was so bad today that a friend
rang me to say he could he hear it on 6220. I could detect it on 6273
at times.
All day across three frequencies, Union Radio had some of the worst
modulation I have ever heard, and he just kept on broadcasting !
Two stations today said on their programmes, that the weather was hot
and it was around 80 degrees in their studios. It never pays to mention the
weather when your on tape I think.

A brief FRS-Holland update:
After having successfully been received in New Zealand June 22nd and July
13th, FRSH concentrated on its European audience in August. Sun August 10th
saw a test broadcast on 6246 between 08.52-10.00 UTC. Purpose was to test
the rig but also to inform listeners about upcoming August transmissions.
Signal-strength was good, so was the modulation. The only negative aspect
was that the signal was fading in and out in certain areas due to the
constantly changing skip. Sunday August 16th FRS-Holland did a short
nighttime broadcast, it was a final test to make sure all was working ok
for the 3rd Sunday broadcast the next day. We went on the air on 6290 at
22.01 UTC, directly after WMR was signing off and continued till 23.15 UTC.
Exceptionally strong reception was reported from the mid Wales area:
S=9+50dB!!
August 17th FRSH started at approx. 07.30 UTC with non-stop 60s music
interspersed with offshore jingles. Frequency was 6245, the same channel
we used in October/December 1996. Trms started at 07.52 UTC sharp. During
the first hour (Peter Verbruggen's FRS Magazine) skip was very, very long
but was rapidly getting shorter after 09.00 UTC. In the end there were
hardly any dead zones, reception in most areas was (very) good judging the
reports we received so far. For instance in Italy and Finland FRSH was well
heard. Close down would be at 12.00 UTC but it was decided to repeat Peter
V.'s FRS Magazine show because of the long skip earlier that day. So FRSH
continued till 13.00 UTC when we signed off.
August 30th/31st FRSH was to be heard on 3910 to celebrate the 17th
birthday (inofficially). Pxs went out between 22.00-00.00 UTC August 30th
or if you like: 00.00-02.00 CEST August 31st. Signal-strength on 3910 was
good, most reports have to arrive yet. The proposed 48 mb broadcast was
cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control. However, we will
hopefully put the pxs on air on 48 metres in the night of Sat Sept. 6th to
Sunday September 7th or Sat Sept. 13th to Sun Sept. 14th. Start will be at
around 23.00 UTC. Frequency most likely 6290. You'll hear it as soon as
things are 100% certain.
FRS-Holland's next 3rd Sun broadcast will be October 19th when we celebrate
our 17th birthday on two frequencies (48 & 51 metres). We also will be
active in November and December with 3rd Sun broadcasts.

Dutch media news, news from around the world, the latest FRSH news
including details about our upcoming October 17th birthday celebration and
