>From: salmaniw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx (Walter (Volodya) Salmaniw, Victoria, BC)
>IRAQ 11787 Radio Iraq International. 0252 with start of a rather stilted
English program after Arabic. Announced as on from 7 to 8 PM Baghdad time,
on 11785. Address given as: Broadcasting Service of the Republic of Iraq,
Iraqi Broadcasting and (?)TV Establishment, (?)Salihiya Baghdad, (?) 01114
Baghdad, Iraq. At times S9 + 20, but with rapid polar flutter. Muddy
audio, seemingly co-channel at times with Arabic music, though I suspect
this was more likely a mixing error at the station. Examples of stilted
English by a lone male announcer: "We with you best times with our
programs...You are still tuned to Baghdad, Radio Iraq International...Any
suggestions to make, don't hesitate to contact us."
>They signed off at 0349 with, "we wish you a happy time", then the national
anthem, and carrier off at 0352. Not heard besides a het since.

>MOLDOVA 7520 Radio Moldova International, heard for first time here,at
0349, on the west coast in English with fair signal. This was UTC Sat. I
recall reports that they were only on Mon to Fri. Can anyone confirm
current schedule.

>
>TUNISIA (presumed) 7474.75 RTV Tunisienne at 0448 with Arabic music,
alternating with western style easy listening music, and Arabic
annoucements. fair reception.

>SWEDEN 7290 Radio Sweden in English to Latin America is heard here quite
well regularly. 0130 to 0200. Program at 0151 about a Swedish museum.
Good to very good.

>
>UKRAINE 7150 Radio Ukraine International. Good reception at S7 to S9
level with Ukrainian program of Ukrainian music. //9550 under a much
stronger Spanish station, and 12040 barely audible. English program at 0300
has all three frequencies in the clear, with 7150 the best. This contrasts
to my observations during the summer, where 12040 was consistently best,
with 9550 weaker, and 7150 usually unuseable. Whereas their record in the
past was terrible for accuracy in schedules announced, I now find them very
accurate.

>TURKEY 7300 Voice of Turkey, in English with DX Corner program until 0330.
Fair to good, with rapid polar flutter.

>HAWAII 17555. KWHR with their new 100 kw transmitter beamed to Pacific
Islands, presumably on their first day of testing. Heard immediately after
sign-off of much weaker Family Radio at 1859, with Onward Christian
Soldiers, intermittent for a couple of minutes, then full ID at 1901:45, and
the history of the founder's travels to the S. Pacific in 1935. Test
schedule as 13 to 19 7510 !! (Not previously announced 6020)
> 19 to 07 17555
> 07 to 13 11565
>The various target areas were announced, including most of the South
Pacific islands, Australia, and New Zealand. A special test QSL is being
offered at the usual Indiana address, or via E-mail (www.kwhr.com). 73's
and good DXing announced. S-I-O 4-5-5. Same test loop heard at various
other times of the day, usually at equal strength, which is a big
improvement over the first transmitter which is received on the west coast
with highly variable strengths, from unuseable to good strength.
