ITALY - AWR-Forli has scheduled a pair of DX broadcasts, designed "to
give listeners in North America, and perhaps elsewhere in the world, the
opportunity to hear our exotic little station," per station engineer
Christoph Gysin. Sked is 0100-0300 on 28- and 29-September (UTC).
Programming will consist of "Wavescan" and other AWR program segments.
Details of special QSLs will be announced. The 2.5kW station will point
its log-periodic beam at New York City for the broadcast, whose
frequency was still not certain as of press time. Two special QSL cards
will be available: reception reports to the AWR Office of International
Relations at Box 29235 Indianapolis 46229, will receive the "World's
Smallest QSL Card." Those sent to Box 383 Forli 47100 in Italy will
receive a regular QSL card with a special endorsement denoting the DX
broadcasts. Also available will be a copy of the AWR QSL stamp, which
can be affixed to the QSL certificate. Listeners may send two reception
reports, one to each location. Please remember to enclose return
postage, in the form of currency notes or postage stamps in an

GLEANINGS

ANGOLA - I stumbled across very strong VORGAN (now calling itself
"Programcao Nacional da VORGAN") on their old 7090 kHz around 0500 to
past 0600 when the noise started getting the best of them. Programming
is fast-paced mix of Western & African pop mx with lots of produced ID's
and snappy dj. (21-Aug/Quaglieri-NY) Heard on the BBC etc that Unita
wanted as a condition for their radio station to function as a normal
broadcaster. Guess this is it. Maybe Savimbi will have some form of

COMOROS - I have spoken with the Director of R. Comoro, who told me that
they hope to fix their shortwave transmitter and have it back on the air
two months time. Frequency remains 3331 KHz, scheduled from 0300-1900 in
in French, Arabic and Comoro language. Station phone is 269 73 25 31.

INTERNATIONAL WATERS - [non]. Scott Becker was interviewed by Bill Bragg
on the Yesterday USA network UT Monday Aug 25 at 0215. He said the
Electra radioship was almost ready to sail in a couple weeks once some
final parts were received. Destination is West Indies but exact country
still not released pending contracts, nor frequencies. Will have 50-kW
signal on SW. Visitors who phone in advance (no number heard) will be
allowed to visit the ship, which has a fresh coat of purple paint and a
75-foot mast, after Sept. 1. In East Boston, go down Meridian St. to
Chelsea, over the MacArthur bridge, and it's visible to the left (tape
