As part of a global reorganization, the BBC has announced
that its Hong Kong bureau will be upgraded to a regional hub,
complete with full digital production facilities and production
manpower.
The #15 million (US$25 million) BBC international overhaul, will
see reorganization of 42 bureaus and the establishment of
seven regional hubs.
Other bureaus upgraded to regional hubs are Brussels,
Moscow, Delhi, Johannesburg, Washington and Jerusalem.
News chief executive, Tony Hall, says the changes are part of
a strategy to keep the BBC in the forefront of global
newsgathering.
"I am determined BBC news will stand head-and-shoulders
above the competition," he told Reuters.
