EDITOR NOTICE - Well, as summertime means outdoor long vacation here in
Italy, there are only few tips of mine for this issue. As usual, on
August the whole Italy takes the month off, so since July 20 till the
second half of August I prefer to be on the beach in Anzio after work,
rather than in Roma and in front of my radio shack ( may be I ' ll carry
my Sony on the beach). TFW # 34 will return after August 15 with a
special summer issue, but I' ll continue to collect your contributions
during this period...I 'll be on vacation next September ( 01 - 25 ).
Really, thank you very much to all TFW supporters !!! Have great summer
vacation! (for DX-ers in the Northern Hemisphere, of course... hi !)

1825- 9600- SWAZILAND- Trans World R. 1825-1900* Apparently TWR has
added a new language and freq for its Africa service. After interlude of
gospel instrumentals, ID at 1830: "Vous etes a l'ecoute de Trans World
Radio. Les programmes suivants sont a langue Baule." Baule, a vernacular
spoken in Cote d'Ivoire, doesn't appear in the current roster of TWR
languages. At s/off, gives address of B.P. 2131, Abidjan 06, Cote
d'Ivoire. A brief English announcement doesn't give any sked info or,
for that matter, the transmitter location--which I assume is Swaziland,

11/DXReport
( May be it won' t be a good DX new, but for me it is OK if
Caltanissetta site remains with its old 5 kW tx, or closes down its
transmissions : our government is squeezing us like lemons with taxes,
taxes and taxes, to fight the very strong Italian deficit... and, as
RAI Italia is a State Service, it is not a good idea to waste our money
for very hummy carrier and poor level, or for purchasing another more
powerful tx for home service pgm. ---ed. )

PIRATE EUROPE - Last minute: Just for a note in your agenda: On
Thursday 14th of August Radio Netherlands English Service will be having
a special in Media Network on the fact it's than 30 years ago the the
Marine Offences Act became law with the purpose to closedown most of the
offshore radio stations off the British coast. Of course we all know the
dramatic closedowns of stations like Radio London, Radio 270 and Radio
Scotland, but we also know that several other radio stations came on the
air after the MOA as well as Caroline stayed on the air in August 1967.
In the programme Jonathan Marks will look back on the sixties radio,
together with Andy Senneth and Hans Knot. (from Hans Knot via
Radiorama-Pirate News July # 2)
PIRATE EUROPE - Radio Without Borders Int. (RWBI) have a new address:

Radiorama-Pirate News July # 2)
PORTUGAL - RARET, the Portuguese company responsible for relaying
RFE/RL/VOA at Gloria do Ribatelo & Maxoquiera, which are very close to
each other - Maxoquiera is now being dismantled (is said to be moving to
island of Tinian for Radio Free Asia - comment by Marc Vissers) and
Gloria has only a few people for maintenance and inoperative since last
year, so RARET is about to close down. Some txers at Gloria belong to
Portuguese state and will be returned (they are the oldest ones).
(Carlos L. Relvas de Assuncao Goncalves via Danish Shortwave Club
International via Marc Vissers - DXA on usenet via JKB, 29 June/ News DX
Magazine July 97)
USA - Florida has another 26 MHz SW station, starting a couple weeks ago
on 26470, audible during sporadic-E openings, operated by WJFP, 91.1 FM,
Fort Pierce. I called the station and found out that they use 75 watts
to a 5-element horizontal antenna aimed toward Chicago. They have had
reports from as far as Michigan, Washington, Quebec, Haiti and
Venezuela. Although officially a cuing unit, they refer to this openly
as a "lowpower shortwave service" and the organization plans to put two
more on the air, unknown from where (Alan Roberts, PQ, July 16, World of
Radio 902 via GH SWDX Report July 17)
USA - FCC records show an experimental license to Caprock Consulting
Group, Flower Mound, Texas for WA2XJS on 1790, 4050, 10200, 18220, 27755
and 49820 kHz for RF susceptibility testing (Hary Helms' website via
World of Radio 902 via GH SWDX Report July 17) Flower Mound is between
Dallas and Denton. Wonder what kind of modulation and if they ever ID

I just close this issue with a curiosity: when I was child, I really
lived in The Four Winds street ( via dei Quattro Venti) in the
beautiful small town of Urbino, north-east of Italy, from 1964 till
1969.
Till the next, after August 15th....but please, remind I' ll continue
to collect your contributions during this period. 73 to
