NORTH KOREA

R Pyongyang in Japanese 1100-1250 and 1300-1450 on 4/18/97 was absent on
6520 and 7580 kHz. Heard only on 621, 3250, and 6070 kHz. Many R Pyongyang
transmissions have been noted canceled or temporarily off the air in recent
weeks, presumably due to severe power shortage.

North Korean Random Number Broadcast 4770 kHz, 1400-1415, 4/18/97,
good-fair. S/on with IS (same as R Pyongyang), music, coded message in
five-digit numbers read by a female announcer in Korean (Northern), s/off
1415.
