We are proud to announce for third time that the annual DX summer
meeting of Finnish DX Association will be held in Oulu, in Northern Finland.
The meeting will be arranged by Oulun DX-Klubi (DX-Club of Oulu), a local
branch of FDXA.
The Summer Meeting takes place on 1-3 of August 1997, beginning on
Friday afternoon, until Sunday afternoon.
Exact place is Virpiniemi Recreational Institute at Haukipudas, a small
village about 20 km's to the north from Oulu. And Oulu lies on the western
coast of North Finland.
Traffic links to Oulu are good: you can travel to Oulu from Helsinki by
air, train and bus. Oulu lies pretty close to border of Sweden, so you can
arrive via Sweden, too (i.e. border towns Haparanda and Tornio, about 125
km's from Oulu).
Almost 100 Finnish DX listeners are expected to participate in the
Summer Meeting. All foreign DXers as well as representatives of radio
stations are warmly welcomed to attend the meeting!
For more information, write to:
Oulun DX-Klubi ry.

For what interest it may be, the Cave Creek CP here on 1100 has been heard
regularly testing during the daytime, however it appears that their
previously planned start date has been moved back now to sometime in April.

Paul Ormandy - paulorm@xxxxxxxx
Just had it confirmed from V of Russia that the station I heard at 1830z in
EE on 1467kHz was from the Maiac (Moldova) transmitter site. I wonder if
anyone can discover if the 1548 1000kW sender is back in business?

STATION NEWS:
------------
MEXICO: "K-Bach" is now "X-Bach". Owners heard that a station in the
Monterey area was using "K-Bach" slogan so they changed their slogan.
Tijuana transmitter will evidently be 25kW. XETIN currently operating about
6am-6pm most days with Beatles format. Target date for classical music
format is the last week of March on cable radio only, then the first week of
April on "real" radio. Still no sign of anything on 1650. (TRH-CA)
Our local on 1620 remains a mystery. Nonstop Black oldies 24h NSP. No DJs,
no IDs. Seems strongest near I-8/I-805 junction or maybe I-805/CA-163
junction. Our lame convention center TIS on 1620 WPJ551 announces address as
111 W. Harbor Dr., San Diego.
Good to finally hear the 1640/1680 stations from home. Now all I need is a
station on 1690 and I'll have heard something on every expanded band
channel! Is anyone else closing in on this trivial feat?

There exists a SWL "Channel" on IRC Chat. Usually, this "channel" has only
been in use during the ANARC SWL Net Sunday mornings at 1500. One of the
more active participants, Jay Novello and I thought it might also be used to
organize group listening sessions. A bit like a DX'pedition without leaving
the house. This offers the advantages of having a group of people DX'ing
together at one time and communicating information in REAL TIME, such as
UNID's, stations to tune to, etc, between themselves using the Internet and
the SWL IRC channel.
If you want more information on how to use IRC Chat, Tom Sundstrom has
information on that posted on his WWW Site at:
http://www.trsc.com/irc_faq.htm
There is a mailing list by which folks who want to use the IRC channel can
communicate with the group. This is useful for scheduling and organizing
real time listening "events" and getting a group together on the IRC
channel.
Here's the info:
SWLTALK

I wonder if someone can tell me if the South American "El Gato" lottery has
a rival/partner called "La Gata" and if so, is it in Venezuela as well? I
hrd a station on 1450kHz with UTC-4 t/c and also an ad for Banco Delasco.
HELP!

TO ALL INTERESTED IN THE VARIOUS FACETS OF CAYMAN ISLAND BROADCASTING...
FEEL FREE TO USE AS YOU WISH.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A couple of months ago I had occasion to renew my acquaintence with Mr.
Loxley Banks, General Manager of Radio Cayman.
About the time I had to head back to the ship, I asked him if he would list
all on-air operations in the three-island group. He hastily scribbled out a
list...and I realize that many details are lacking. If they ever get
on-line down there, I'll try to fill in the blanks. (Getting a snail-mail
letter out of him seems to be next to impossible! <g>. BETTER YET...MAYBE I
NEED TO TAKE ANOTHER CRUISE!)
Here's the Cayman status as of January 15 this year.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
R A D I O :
AM 1205 Radio Cayman (Note...this operation is NOT an endangered station
contrary to previous reports. Demand to keep the facility on the air has
been great enough to justify needed equipment repairs and upgrades.)
FM 105.3 5 kw Radio Cayman
FM 89.9 3 kw Radio Cayman
FM 91.9 .25 kw Radio Cayman
FM 93.9 .25 kw Radio Cayman
(Notes: the 91.9 and 93.9 facilities are on Little Cayman and Cayman
Brac... and are fulltime repeaters of the two main stations on Grand Cayman.
At times all four stations simulcast, but there is occasionally separate
programming on various combinations of the above. Is that confusing
enough?)
FM 99.9 5 kw Z-99 (private operation)
FM 101.1 .5 kw I.C.C. 1 (private operation)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
T E L E V I S I O N :
Channel 24 CTS (significance of call sign not known)
Channel 27 CITN (significance of call sign not known)
(ADDITIONAL NOTES: Tower heights for *ALL* TV and FM operations unknown;
however, having eyeballed the whole place on a motor-scooter, my guess is
that there's nothing over 150 or 200 feet...probably less. Also, since
Radio Cayman is NOT involved in any of the television ventures, Mr. Banks
did not know how much power they were running and was not willing to venture
any guesses. My personal guess is that the TV transmitters are in the same
ballpark as LPTV's in the US.)
