I listened for WBOW-640, Terre Haute, IN this morning, February 16, 1997 -
12:30-1:00 am EST with negative results. First of all there is a very
powerful station at 630 AM (WMAL). And, as always there is a high QRM level
where I live, in Metro DC suburbs.
I do want to report that on three occasions there was a signal with Latino
music and language, but I did not catch the ID.

COMMENTS
Now that was a DX'pedition. We tramped out to find both of the East
beverages missing. The lead in wire was there but no sign of the antenna. I
dug around outside for about 30-45 minutes in -15 C temps but to no avail.
Hey with 2-4 feet of snow on the ground it would have been easier to find a
needle in one of the hay bails on the field that 22 gauge wire!! Oh well the
rest worked well and as you see we got many new ones including KWOF Waterloo
IA my #2000!! I had wanted to hear 2000 by the year 2000 so I'm early. The
TP Hets were just rolling in but only got audio on 2 or 3 . Could have been
better but will settle.
We got a bit of a surprise when the skies cleared and the temps went down to
-26C. Well at least the cars started in the morning. Slow but started. Had a
lovely 60 mile drive home in blowing snow just to cap it off. We did see one
new thing at the farm. A HUGE owl decided to look for food about 150 feet
from the DX bus. I have never seen one that size. We stopped DX'ing to watch
it catch two field mice. Wing span was at least 6 feet! Beautiful bird. That
and great B-B-Q for supper made it extra special. Will try for one or two in
March

are nicely out of sync. At one point you could hear the tones

640 WBOW, Terre Haute, Indiana. 2/16 0030-0100. Some faint code heard
despite interference from Radio Progreso in Cuba. Best
reception was at 0035 when I could hear the code well enough to
understand the Morse Code characters for the call letters.
(Henry Lazarus-LA, 2/16)
1070 KHMO, Hannibal, Missouri. 2/17 0100-0130. Heard much code beginning at
0104 despite massive interference from WDIA in Memphis. Best
reception was at the end of the test when I heard a good coded
message (including call letters, TEST, city and state) and a
faint announcement to the effect that they were returning to
their regular programs. Then I heard the beginning of an AP
newscast. (Henry Lazarus-LA, 2/17)
