Both major MW clubs (IRCA/NRC) sponsor Courtesy Programs Committees. CPC
members arrange DX tests from various AM stations throughout the DX season.
Donations of money, stamps and target station lists are one way everyone can
get involved with this effort. Canvasing for the upcoming season is
underway. Send your donations to the committee chairmen, whose addresses
follow:
IRCA: JD Stephens
PO Box 605
Huntsville AL 35804-0605
At this time, the NRC is looking for a CPC chairman, however JD Stephens is
accepting contributions from NRC members as well as IRCA.

Not much time to DX. Unfortunate circumstances led a friend and fellow
co-worker to take his own life. Had to spend time notifying the rest of the
staff and dealing with all of the feelings we had as a close group. They
sure don't give you training in Management courses for that. Hope that next
week is better. Shawn

Jorma Mantyla - Tornio, Finland - jmantyla@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Here is my 6th report from the Arctic. After 3 weeks of no DX I first
thought that conditions are very bad this weekend. Normal dominant West
Coast stations KOMO 1000/CFUN 1410/CJVB 1470 were not audible. However, I
soon noted that there are conditions but now towards East Coast. Quebec was
strong and stations from New York area were booming in. Practically all
stations were Eastern Canadians or W-stations - K-stations were unaudible.
One of the normal dominating stations here in the Arctic is KSL 1160. Now I
was unable to hear them - instead of KSL two stns from East Coast US were
logged.
BTW, solar flux now had jumped to 90-100 from 69. It seems that sunspot
minimium is now over and solar activity is increasing. This means that we
here in Scandinavian Arctic can enjoy good dx this and possibly next MW
season while 98-99 must be bad.

Not sure (Trans-Atlantic or Pacific?)
1008 UNID and puzzling. This carrier showed up at 0425 11/17 which was just
after the Hawaiians made their first pitiful appearances of the
night. NOTHING else was in yet - no Pacific island stations or early
- arriving Japanese megasignals. The only TP area in darkness was the
very northeastern tip of Russia north of the Kamchatka peninsula.
Petropavlovsk (middle of the Kamchatka peninsula) has a local sunset
of about 0500 and was not heard later, but this weak carrier coud
have easily been buried under Osaka. Everything else (Japan and
Khabarovsk) had a much later sunset of 0750 GMT and 0720 GMT
respectively. There wasn't a single TA carrier which would discount
the sudden appearance of Holland. There also wasn't so much as one
carrier yet from any of the Japanese powerhouses. Tantalizing for
sure. (bp/ch)
1575 UNID and puzzling just like 1008 about 0425 GMT 11/17. This time the
earliest fade-in would theoretically be the Russian in
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (just a few hundred miles directly north of Japan
with a sunset of about 0655), New Zealand (sunset about 0750), or
the Japanese FEN station in Misawa (sunset also about 0750 GMT). I
don't believe either of these was the tantalizer. (bp/ch)

Bartell's has the Superadio III on sale for $39.99. Unfortunately, it's not
the SR-II, hi. I've read pretty much the entire SR-II/III FAQ on the web,
and it's rife with comments about the sloppy calibration of the SR-3. Just
wondering if you own a III or know anyone who does, or anyone who routinely
does modifications to them. I don't have the kind of gear necessary to do
the mods suggested in the FAQ (scope, sig generator, etc).
